Chapter 31 – Falkner’s decision

<Aboard the Johto Express; en route Cherrygrove City>

“Peace, are you alright?” Isaac yelled. He could not really see the battle from where he was standing.

From his perspective, it looked as though Blaziken was trying to escape from his Noctowl. However, the blue aura coming from Blaziken was preventing Noctowl from attacking it, acting as its shield. To make things worse, the Pokémon was travelling straight towards him.

“Crap!” Isaac muttered as he tried to back up. “Why do Pokémon like attacking me so much?”

Blaziken closed in and Peace the Noctowl was too far away to help. “Rawr!” It growled as it raised it fist and prepared to land.

“Look out!” Falkner shouted. He held another pokeball in his hand and pointed it at the Blaziken. “I choose you!”

‘Boom!’ His pokeball opened and a purple flying bat-like Pokémon appeared and immediately blocked Blaziken’s strike with its pincer. It had black gliders at its back and a large stinger extended between its short and stubby legs. The two large pincers it held out in a menacing manner was almost as big as its face and clamped shut with a loud ‘Clang!’ noise. It had large vampire like teeth and bright yellow eyes, which it used to observe its opponent carefully.

“Wow…” Isaac just stared at it.

Falkner looked at him angrily. “Stop staring and start battling! Command your Pokémon!”

Isaac winced and quickly did so. “Peace, Aerial Ace!” He turned to look at Falkner’s opponent, but he was already fainted on the ground, his Kabutops lying on top of him.

The opponent’s Blaziken was still trying to battle Falkner’s Pokémon but Falkner’s Pokémon easily gained the upper hand.

“Urgg… Blaziken, use Flare Blitz!” The opponent commanded.

Blaziken immediately started turning around in circles and flames started to gather around its body.

Falkner would have none of that. “Gliscor, Poison Jab!”

Gliscor’s pincers opened and stabbed forth at Blaziken before it even had enough time to initiate its move. “Garrk!” Blaziken screamed as it lost all its momentum and its body was thrown back. At that instant, Noctowl appeared from behind and hit it harshly on its back, throwing it back forward.

“Finish that fool!” Falkner said.

Isaac nodded. “Peace, wing attack!”

Noctowl immediately flapped its aileron and smashed Blaziken’s body down. It hit the ground with a thud and lay motionless. Meanwhile, Falkner’s Gliscor was flying towards the trainer who commanded Blaziken. That trainer, realising that he stood no chance against Falkner, quickly raised his hands and looked at Falkner in fear.

“P-P-Please! Spare me!”

“Drop your belt!” Falkner commanded. His Gliscor’s stingers were inches away from his neck.

“A-Alright.” With trembling hands, he unclasped his belt buckle and his belt – together with all his pokeballs – dropped on the floor.

Falkner walked towards the man. “You have some nerve, challenging me to a Pokémon battle.”

“I-It’s not my fault! We were given orders!”

Falkner grabbed his shoulder and slammed him to the side of the carriage. “If you treasure your life, you will tell me everything you know!”
