Chapter 3 - First Battle

Chapter 3 – First Battle

<Route 29>

“Isaac… Wait!”

“What is it, Emma?”

“You haven’t told me where we’re going!”

“Come on, didn’t you hear the aide? He told us to head over to Cherrygrove City.”

“Yeah, but he didn’t tell us why.”

“So?”

“What do you mean by ‘so?’!” Emma said angrily. “We should’ve stayed a little longer  to hear what he has to say!”

“Shush!” Isaac quickly hushed her.

“What?”

Isaac held out one finger at his lip. “Can’t you hear it?”

“Hear what?”

Emma quickly looked around for any signs of danger. Being a new trainer, she did not know what to expect. “I can’t hear anything.” She whispered.

Just then, a purple rodent-like creature jumped out of the bushes and started to tackle Isaac. It had large frontal teeth and a long, purple tail.

“Holy Arceus!” Emma quickly covered her mouth in shock. “It’s a Rattata!”

Isaac quickly dodged out of the way and said, “Emma! What are you waiting for? Send out your Pokémon!”

“My Pokémon?”

“Yeah! What do you think your Totodile is for?”

“Oh… Right!” Emma laughed sheepishly and quickly fumbled for her ball. “I choose you!” She yelled as she tossed the pokeball at the Rattata.

‘Boom!’ The pokeball as it hit the ground and released her Pokémon in a brilliant flash of light. Her Totodile appeared, and looked ready for battle.

The wild Rattata immediately sensed the new threat and tried to tackle it. Totodile dodged its opponent’s moves easily and looked back at Emma for its commands.

“Emma, command your Pokémon! Pay attention to the battle!” Isaac instructed.

“R-Right!” Emma nodded unsurely. “Umm… Totodile, use your Bite attack!”

Upon hearing its trainer’s command, Totodile instantly jolted into action, closing in the distance and clasping Rattata in its jaws. Rattata tried to struggle free, but to no avail. Totodile simply flung Rattata’s body away, making it land harshly on the ground a few meters back.

“Yes!” Emma celebrated. “Finish it!”

Totodile tried to move in for the last strike but Rattata quickly escaped into the bushes before that could happen.

“Wait! Aww no… It ran away.”

“It’s alright, Emma. Rattata are way too common here. You wouldn’t want to train one, would you?”

“Really…? I wanted to… Nevermind.” Her voice trailed off and she quickly walked off.

“Hey, wait up, Emma!” Isaac shouted. Sometimes, he just did not understand her actions.

“Route 29 is pretty short.” Isaac said. “If I'm not wrong, we should be reaching Cherrygrove City in less than five minutes.”
