Chapter 2 – Overeager

“The professor! He’s in trouble!” The aide exclaimed.

“Wow, calm down.” Isaac urged him.

“Yeah.” Emma agreed. “Slow down and tell us what happened here.”

The aide quickly composed himself and took several deep breaths. He still looked on edge, which was evident from his quick, short breathes and dilated eyeballs. “Professor… He was kidnapped.”

“No…” Emma muttered.

Isaac tried to keep his cool. “W-What… Happened…?”

The aide squirmed slightly, then closed his eyes to recall. “What day is it today?”

“Err… It’s Thursday.”

“Arceus, it’s already been almost three days!” The aide said.

“Well, what happened?” Emma asked loudly.

The aide sighed. “Three days ago, three trainers came knocking at the door in search for Professor Maple. As you know, the professor has been getting more and more visitors lately, due to his rise in fame from his latest book. I didn’t think much of it and showed them to the professor. They talked for a moment then… I left them.”

“What do you mean you left them?” Isaac asked.

“Hey boy, it’s not polite to eavesdrop on the conversations of others you know. As usual, I left the professor to chat with our guests. However… things started to get heated.”

“Heated?” Emma asked.

“Yeah. Before I knew it, the professor was battling with the trainers!”

“What?” Isaac exclaimed.

“I quickly ran in to help him, of course, but to no avail. You see, I'm not an experienced trainer, so I couldn’t help in the battle at all. Furthermore, the three men were using some fearsome Pokémon that even I had never seen before.”

“Really? Pokémon like what?” Isaac asked.

“Pokémon like Musharna and Magmar.”

“Oh.” Isaac said, even though he had no idea what those Pokémon looked like.

“I was knocked out before I could scream for help, and I guess the professor didn’t stand a chance as well, judging from the state of the room.” The aide said sadly.

“Father…” Emma muttered.

Hearing Emma’s cries only made the aide feel even worse. “I'm sorry, Emma. I… I shouldn’t have let the guests in. It’s all my fault!”

Emma shook her head. “No… I know it’s not your fault, sir.”

Looking at both of their abject faces only made Isaac feel the same. “So… Did you hear anything that may serve as a clue?” He said, trying to change the subject.

“Well… I did hear one thing. Just one statement.”

“What was it?”

“When the men were leaving the room, they were talking to their pokegears. They must have thought I was passed out but at that moment, I was still lingering between the lines of consciousness.”

“Okay…? So what did they say?” Isaac asked.

“Up till now, I'm still not sure if I'm imagining it or if it really happened…”
