Chapter 29 – Back to the Basics
Sleep did not come easily for Isaac as he kept thinking of what could have happened had Falkner not came to save him. Would Peace have come back in time to fight the Nidoking? Could Peace even defeat the Nidoking? Numerous questions haunted him and for most of the night, and peaceful rest eluded him.
Faint blue light came from outside his cell. Professor Maple tried to think straight, but it was easier said than done. He had been captured for three, maybe four days? He did not know. In a dark cell such as his, days mattered no more. From the looks of it, he was trapped in a cave of sorts. The walls of the cell were crude and rough, and the same could be said for the floor. There was no light source within his room; the only way for him to see was using light which came from outside his room.
Legacy had not come to visit him for quite some time, which was a relief for Maple. After all, he was asking the impossible from Maple. A pokeball to contain legendary Pokémon? As if such a powerful ball could even exist. The only type of pokeball which Professor Maple knew could contain Pokémon of such calibre was the Master Ball, and even those could hold the legendary Pokémon for only short periods of time.
A slid from the door opened and the light which came from it was almost blinding. A plate of food and a bottle of water were shoved into his room, and then the slid was closed without a word.
Maple wanted to abstain, wondering what they would do if he passed out from the hunger, but every time the food came, his will would weaken. Holding the plate with trembling arms, he tried to determine what it was they gave.
“Oh joy, the usual indistinguishable muck…” He said weakly.
It looked as though they just took a bunch of Pokémon food and blended it together. The result – Maple’s plate of food. Nevertheless, Professor Maple gulped it all down greedily, licking the plate clean. It was never enough and his stomach protested for more.
“Ready to talk, Maple?” A voice came from outside.
Maple looked wearily at the door but did not answer.
The voice laughed. “Very well, keep your voice shut at your own risk, or shall I say your daughter’s risk. Hahahahaha.”
“Leave her alone!” Maple struggled to say, but instead it came out as, “Lib err eroone!”
“Sorry what was that?”
Maple cleared his throat, but immediately regretted it. His throat was extremely sore, partly due to shouting for help from within the cell, but mostly due to the unsophisticated food he had been ingesting the past few days. His throat clearing immediately turned into a full on coughing fit, and he struggled to catch his breath.
‘Click!’ The sound of the door opening filled the air and the door flew open. Faint blue light poured into his cell and Maple was momentarily overwhelmed by the sudden exposure to light. Legacy walked in.
“Ahh!” He screamed as Maple dragged his groggy body to the inner-most part of his cell.
“I didn’t know you were enjoying your confinement so much.” The man smiled. “I may have to start charging you for your stay.”
“Go away…” He muttered softly.
“I must say, I’m running out of patience fast.” Legacy said.
Maple just coughed a couple of times and stared at the ground.
“Talk. Now.” He threatened.
Maple looked up into his eye but the image was all blurred. It all seemed so surreal that he briefly wondered if it was all just one long nightmare. The days of solidarity had really taken a toll on his body and it was hard to even form a proper statement. “… Don’t know… Impossible.”
