It was finally Christmas morning. Cassie blinked awake, the soft glow of light filtering through the curtains. The room was quiet, save for the occasional pop of the enchanted fireplace. She sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, and turned toward the small tree in the corner. Beneath it, a neat pile of presents had been arranged—likely the work of the house-elves.

Sliding out of bed, she padded over and picked up the first package. It was wrapped in sleek black paper, the edges crisp and precise. A Black family heirloom, then. She peeled away the wrapping carefully, revealing a leather-bound book embossed with a silver crest.

Toujours Pur.

Her lips pressed together at the sight of the family motto. Of course. She traced the raised emblem before flipping it open, finding a folded card tucked inside.

𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐂𝐚𝐬,

𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐬, 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭. 𝐍𝐨𝐰, 𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫—𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭, 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮-𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰-𝐰𝐡𝐨 (𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐈 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭).

Cassie let out a breath of laughter. Of course Aunt Cissy would send something like this. It was equal parts tradition and subtle rebellion—wrapped up in the polished elegance only Narcissa Malfoy could manage.

Setting the book aside, she reached for the next package. This one was lumpy, wrapped in plain brown paper, and tied together with twine. She grinned before even opening it.

Sure enough, inside was a thick knitted jumper, indigo blue with a golden C stitched into the center. A Weasley jumper.

Molly had sent her one again this year.
