A half hour passed.
None of them moved, as Allie kept whispering sweet nothings for Thomas to calm down. Her back was to Minho which Thomas was grateful for; he couldn't help wondering what Minho would think of him, or if he'd tell others, calling him a sissy. Then Thomas sat back up the tears creating wet patches on his dirt-stained cheeks. Allie watched him crawl to the edge of the Cliff once more, he stuck his head over again to get a better look now that dawn was in full force. The open sky in front of them was a deep purple, slowly fading into the bright blue of day, with tinges of orange from the sun on a distant, flat horizon. As Thomas stared straight down, Allie closed her eyes and let the feeling of slight breeze floating around her body console her into false promise of safety. The Doors would be opening soon, and they could return to the Glade.
Thomas laid on his back now, groaning. Allie was sure he started to feel all the running, jumping and sliding. She looked over at Minho, huddled against the hall of the corridor. "I can't believe we're still alive," he said.
Allie said nothing, just nodded, a little smile on her face.
"Are there more of them? Did we just kill them all?" Thomas asked.
Minho snorted. "Somehow we made it to sunrise, or we would've had ten more on our butts before long." he shifted his body, wincing and groaning. "I can't believe it. Seriously. We made it through the whole night, and you are still full of questions shank." Allie let out, a little, out of breath laugh.
That didn't stop Thomas to ask some more "What did we do differently?" after thinking about it he added "I mean, how is it possible that we made it out only with few scratches. And seriously, how did you make it here for five days on your own Allie?" immediately after he asked, he winced and looked at Minho in apology.
Allie looked at Minho too, with whole different expression. "You told him?"
Minho winced too, at her tone. "Yeah?" he said carefully, "But to be fair, Newt would have blabbed too, sometime later, he always does."
Allie raised one eyebrow and pursed her lips. After a while, she smacked her lips, and something dawned on her. "Wait, why five days? I never told anyone a specific number. Not even Alby." Allie was curious knowing that it was actually more.
Minho winced again. "I found the peace of wall on one of my runs."
Allie just sighed realizing it was too late to deny. She actually felt a bit relived that one of her secrets were out. "It's okay. And with this it's actually seven." she admitted. Both boys couldn't believe it - she had survived seven days, seven nights navigating the challenges and mysteries of the Maze. The revelation added another layer of intrigue to Allie's presence.
Thomas decided to change the theme then. "Seems like they disappeared or something after they went over the edge."
"Yeah, that was kinda psycho. Couple of Gladers had a theory that other things had disappeared, but we proved 'em wrong. Look."
