"I sat down with Georgie across my legs hugging his head to my body. I didn't move. Alby tried to take Georgie away from me and I refused him, he tried to make me talk. I didn't. I just sat there the whole day and night, that was when Alby decided to-"
"The first bonfire." Newt whispered. The recollection of those harrowing events etched a profound sorrow on her face. She sat in a moment of vulnerability, allowing the emotions to flow freely. The images of the past played vividly in her mind, each scene laden with fear, desperation, and the stark reality of loss. It was a testament to the depth of her pain, the scars left by the turmoil she had endured.
Despite the tears, there was a strength in Allie's vulnerability-a resilience born from facing the darkest moments and emerging, albeit scarred, but resolute. Each tear shed representing the resilience she carried within her, a representation to the strength she drew upon to endure and continue forward. As the tears subsided, a quiet resolve settled within her. She wiped away the traces of sorrow, a silent acknowledgment of the past that had shaped her but wouldn't define her.
"Yes. The first bonfire." Allie still stared at the wall above Thomas's face as he stated across from her. "Day after that the Wall of Names was made and Georgie was buried under his favorite tree. I searched every corner of the Glade for any kind of information, and when I found none, I went into the Maze." she took a shaky breath in, "Day after day. Looking for anything even slightly reminding a code that could be used." she breathed out, her eyes now darting all over the place.
"Few days after that the first Greenie arrived. As if nothing would have happened. I refused to do the same mistake again. I knew that if we should ever get out, we had to trust each other. If I said turn left, everyone had to turn left, If I would say stop, everyone would stop. If I would say jump-"
"Everybody would jump. Me and Alby would jump." Minho finished, revealing himself to be the Greenie that arrived after the whole ordel.
"Shadow." Allie could Thomas whisper and she turned to look at him and nodded.
"Me and Alby welcomed Minho, showed him around the Glade, told him about Grievers and gave him a trial week of jobs. Of course, he was curious about me going to the Maze for hours and coming back with nothin', he figured I was looking for an exit and I let him, Alby and everyone who came after him, believe that."
This was it, this was when Allie would become the most hated thing in the Glade.
"I found the whole code few months into my runs. Few of the boys including Minho wanted to become Runners to help me search and even though I already had everything I needed I trained them. The Runners. I needed to start thinking how I would get everyone out safely. Weapons started coming in without us even asking for them, that was a sign. They were watching us, they knew. How could I know that the Creators would just let us leave, that they wouldn't let the Grievers out in the day. How could I know the Gladers would believe me? How could they.... How could you forgive me for not telling you about the Exit and the code?" Allie was sobbing. "I'm sorry. I am so, so sorry I lied to all of you. Every death that came after that is my fault, every injury, every bad dream-" Allie stood up and backed away from the table sobs coming out of her mouth in between the truth that was spilling out.
