The next morning Allie woke up before the dawn, as usual to get ready before waking Thomas up for another day of training, but as she made her way over to where Thomas slept, she noticed something strange.
There was no sunrise.
The sky was a dull slab of gray-not the natural pale light of morning. But that wasn't the only thing, there was no blue, no black, no stars, no purplish fan of a creeping dawn. The sky, every last inch of it, was slate gray. Colorless and dead. So instead of waking up Thomas she made her way to sleeping Alby.
"'B wake up." Alby woke up with a jolt still troubled by the nightmares from the Changing.
"Wha'? What're you doin'?"
"Alby something is wrong. The Sun."
"What 'bout it?"
"Alby... it's not there."
"What a bunch of klunk, of course it's there-" Alby was walking outside and stopped in shock when he noticed what was Allie talking about. "Call a Gathering."

The Keepers held Gathering while Allie went outside. Most of the Gladers were standing near the entrance to the Box, pointing at the dead sky, everyone talking at once. Breakfast should've already been served; people should be working. But there was something about the largest object in the solar system vanishing that tended to disrupt normal schedules.
Then her eyes finally found Minho, in his running gear, he was talking with Thomas. "Don't you dare Minho. You aint goin' anywhere."
"Yes, we are, there will be no sloppin'."
"Minho it's dark. The Sun is gone! You are. NOT. Running today. Grievers come out at night."
"But its not night now Chief."
Allie got irritated really quickly, emotions running high. "Don't play with me, you are staying. Plus, you are supposed to be at the Gathering right now, you can run your way over there."
Minho didn't argue anymore perhaps a little scared of Allie's expression. Then she looked at Thomas who was already opening his mouth to ask. "The time is out, this just confirms it. If the Sun's really gone, it won't be long before plants and animals drop dead, too. The desperation level just went up a notch."
"We have to get out of here." Thomas said definitely.
"Yeah, I know."

A somber mood rested over the Glade, an easy thing to happen when all is gray. The dim light hadn't changed a bit since they'd woken up that morning. Allie thought a lot about what was about to come and decided that it's time to reveal her secret that would make everyone hate her. She just stepped out of the Map Room, where she hid herself from everyone, when Newt, Minho, Thomas and Alby walked up, none one of them looking very happy. "Figured somethin' up?" asked Alby. "Cuz, this shunk here thinks he did."
