In the dimly lit surroundings, the urgency in the air was palpable as the siblings raced through the poorly illuminated corridors, the echo of their hurried footsteps mingling with distant, ominous screeches. "Come on Allie. We have to run." both siblings breathing heavily as they navigated the labyrinthine paths. "Mom is waiting for us."
"Mom will kill us. We weren't allowed to leave." the little girl voiced out her worries while trying to keep up with her brother.
"I know but we have to keep running." he insisted, his grip firm as he continued to drag his smaller, yet older, sister along. Despite their size difference, the older sister's steps were shorter, her endurance waning. The shared goal of searching the abandoned building for food was the reason for their runninG; they wanted to make their exhausted mother happy. A few corridors down, they reached the room they had been staying in, hastily opening the door and quickly shutting it behind them.

Young Allie and her brother Stephen-Thomas were standing side by side, a woman crouching in front of them. She had long brown hair, a face just beginning to show signs of age. Her eyes were sad. She begins to talk, a sound so simultaneously sweet and angry at the same time.
"I don't know why they chose you, but I do know this. You're special somehow. Never forget that. And never forget how much," her voice cracked and tears runed down her face "never forget how much I love you."
The boy replies. "Are you gonna be crazy like all those people on TV, Mommy? Like ... Daddy?"
The woman reaches out and runs her fingers through his hair her other hand going on the little girls arm. It was their mother. "Don't you worry about that, honey," she says. "You won't be here to see it." Her smile gone away.

"Thomas what is going on?" Allie stared at the scene unfolding before her, witnessing a younger version of herself confronting Thomas with a mixture of frustration and concern. The surroundings seemed to blur as memories came rushing back, they couldn't be older than 16.
"Allie, I'm sorry, I really messed up." Thomas, with tears in his eyes, looked genuinely remorseful.
"Yeah I gathered that, what did you do?"
"I... I-" Thomas struggled to find the right words.
"Thomas? Is this about the girl? Teresa?" young Allie's eyebrows raised in question. "I told you I don't have a good feeling 'bout her. She's bad news."
"Allie. No. Just- She helps okay?"
"How? She helps you climb the ladder?"
"Yes. No! You don't understand."
