When Cas returned to Hogwarts, Harry eagerly told her about the Mirror of Erised. She had read about it before and quickly pieced together that "Erised" was simply "desire" spelled backward. Meanwhile, Hermione was visibly frustrated—not because of the mirror, but because Harry still hadn't uncovered anything about Flamel and had been sneaking around at night.
Cas let out an exasperated sigh. "Look, maybe we should just stop wasting time on this whole Flamel thing. We're first-years. We shouldn't be meddling in whatever this is." She glanced at them seriously. "Why don't we just go to Dumbledore?"
Of course, the suggestion was promptly ignored.
Later that evening, she was sprawled across a couch in the Slytherin common room, absently munching on candy she had stolen from Katherine. She unwrapped a Chocolate Frog and popped it into her mouth, chewing as she flipped over the card.
"Ugh. Dumbledore again," she groaned.
"The number of times I've gotten Dumbledore is just—" Blaise began.
"SALAZAR. I FOUND IT!" Cas suddenly shouted, nearly choking on her chocolate.
Daphne turned to her, confused. "What?"
"I have to find Harry!" Cas exclaimed, holding up the card triumphantly. Finally, they had an answer.
"Stupid Potter," Theo muttered.
"Finally! Someone who understands me," Draco said with an exaggerated sigh, a wide grin stretching across his face.
Cas ignored them, scrambling to her feet. "I have to go!"
As she rushed out of the common room, she barely registered Draco saying, "Nott, you don't seem too bad."
Navigating the castle was a challenge—especially with the staircases seemingly determined to confuse her—but she eventually reached what she assumed was the entrance to Gryffindor Tower. The only problem? She had no idea how to get in. Maybe she could convince a passing Gryffindor to help her. After all, they didn't seem too wary of her, considering she had backed Harry during his fight with Draco over Longbottom's Remembrall.
Before she could figure out a plan, the portrait hole swung open, and the trio came rushing out.
"WE FOUND IT!" they yelled in unison, waving a Chocolate Frog card in the air.
"I FOUND IT TOO!" Cas called back, holding up hers.
Hermione's eyes lit up. "So now we just have to gather more information about him. If we do that, we might be able to figure out what's under the trapdoor!"
