CHAPTER FOUR
BLAIRE
"Oh, wow! I live on that street!"
"That's so cool!" Sarah exclaims, but then my phone starts to ring. I glance at the Caller ID and it reads 'Mom'. My happiness disappears into nothing.
I hit block. "Sorry Sarah, I have to go. Nice talking to you. Hey, follow me on Tumblr. I even might see you around."
She smiles. "Sweet. Bye, Sky."

I sigh as I plop on my bed. Then, the doorbell rings furiously. I hear Phoenix run past my room towards the door, unlocking it.
"Finally! I ordered pizza-oh, you're not the pizza man..." Phoenix's voice dies out.
The clicking of heels makes my heart race. "Where is she?!" I hear her yell. My breathing gets faster and my eyes widen. "Tell me where the hell she is! Blaire!"
My mother interrupts Phoenix. "BLAIRE!"
I feel my hands begin to shake and my chest tightens. "You know what? I didn't want to yell, but you can't just walk into my house without permission. If you could just sit and calm your atti-"
I hear my mom laugh with no humor in her voice. "You're going to complain to me about my attitude. Let me remind you who you really are. Phoenix Sanders, left alone without her parents in middle school."
"Stop." I hear my friend's voice crack, but my mother continues.
"They say she was never wanted. Not even her stupid, immature friends-"
"Shut up!"
My hand reaches the doorknob when Phoenix yelled. The next think I heard made m e throw it open. A loud slapping sound. I run out to the living room finding a wide-eyed Phoenix holding her cheek.
"Get away from her," I practically growl.
My mom's head snaps to my direction right away before grabbing my wrist. I flinch, and my scars burn. "I'm taking you home." I try to pull away but she held on.
"Let me go!"
She drags me towards the door. "You are coming home!"
I finally manage to snap my hand away, looking my mom in the eyes. "A home is place where I can feel safe. A place where I can make good memories instead of bad ones. You want to know the fucking truth? What you call home will never be the same to what I call home."
My mother's eyes look like an explosion just happened. Her hand meets my face. Slap after slap. Tears are pouring out of my eyes. Suddenly her slaps stop.
I open my closed eyes and I see Phoenix holding both of her hands with a plain expression on her face.
"You will leave this house. You will get your ass as far away from Blaire as possible. If I see you lay a finger on her, or even go near her, I will make sure you have no fingers."
A creepy smile crawls up onto her face. "You say I'm unwanted, but how many people do you think will show up at your own funeral? You say your own daughter is a bitch a stupid child, and a mistake."
Phoenix begins to lead her toward the door.
"Bitches slap their own children. Someone who is stupid will walk into a house without permission. You are the mistake, not Blaire."
I stuck in a sharp breath when she shoves her back. My mom stares with wide-eyes at Phoenix. "Get out of my house!" Phoenix snaps before shoving her out the door and slams it in her face.
The back door slams open.
I flinch.
"Phoenix Lynn Sanders!"
Logan's voice fills the house, making me jump. "How could you-" his voice dies out when Phoenix sends him an icy glare.
She walks past me then stops. Her eyes wander over to me. I see small scratch marks and a red spot on her cheek. She gives me a small smile before walking into her room, quietly closing her door.
Logan stares at me, shock plastered on his face. "Blaire? Are you okay?" His eyes are scanning my body, lingering on my tearstained cheeks.
I nod slowly. "It'll be okay, Sky." He said.
I walk to Phoenix's room, and she pulls me into a hug. "Don't worry, Blaire. She won't hurt you anymore."
*
LEVI
"Levi! Ashton! We're eating dinner at Tanner's!" Luna yells from the kitchen.
Ashton smiles up at me.
We were lying together on the couch. "C'mon, let's go get ready."
