CHAPTER TWENTY
LUNA
"I'm from Seattle, Washington. What about you?"
"Well, you'll laugh at this. I'm also from Seattle." He said, chuckling.
"A senior?"
I nod. "What school do you go to?" I ask. I felt like I was playing Twenty Questions, but I didn't mind.
"Roosevelt." He replied, pushing the cart around. "What about you?"
"Nova High," I said, smiling.
"Cool. Too bad, that we don't go to the same school. What are you doing here in Michigan?" Tanner said, smiling at me as I throw a box of Pop Tarts into the cart.
I sigh. "Bailing my friend out of jail. We were on a college trip in San Francisco. So we drove here, me and some other friends of hers."
Tanner nods at me as I grab a bag of Cheetos and throw it into the basket.
"You?" I ask, looking over at the new boy. "Why are you here? Long way from home."
"School trip." He said.
*
"Thanks Tanner. It was nice meeting you." I said, grabbing the bag and heading towards the Police Station across the street.
"Wait!"
I turn around slowly, trying not to drop my crutches and the bag. "Yeah?"
Tanner holds out his phone to me. "I had a really nice talk with you. Maybe we can meet up when you get back home?"
I smile. "Sure." I type in my number into his phone, and hand it back. "See ya around, Tanner." I said, giving him a two-fingered salute and walking the opposite way, feeling better than I've felt all week.
BAILEY
"Let's go to I-Hop next!" Dakota yells.
Blaire rolls her eyes. "When we get back to Seattle, we'll go." She said.
Dakota is hopping and jumping around like a monkey who's just had a bag of M&M's...JOSEPH!
"Oh my God Phoenix, I'll be back." I said, grabbing my phone and Blaire's keys. "Hey! Give those back!" she exclaims.
