Third person POV

・・・

The sun shone through the curtains, waking up Muichiro. Muichiro was trying his hardest to get up on his own without needing his brother to wake him up, but to no avail, Yuichiro still ended up getting Muichiro out of bed.

Once Muichiro was out of bed, he got ready for the day. It was already a bit on the later side, so Muichiro quickly grabbed a new book to read and skipped breakfast in order to make it out the door on time.

Muichiro made it to school with 15 minutes before home room started. He got his book and began reading.

It felt like an hour passed by while he was waiting for home room to start. Eventually, home room started and quickly ended.

The first class that Muichiro had was math. He made his way to the math room, planning to just zone out for the whole class while looking our the window.

Math quickly ended. The rest of the morning seemed to fly by.

It was now lunch. Muichiro went outside and continued reading his new book, only for his reading to be interrupted by a certain red haired boy.

"Hello Tokito." Tanjiro said with a smile. "You looked a bit lonely, so I thought maybe I could have lunch with you?"

Muichiro nodded and Tanjiro sat down next to him. Muichiro continued reading his book before he was interrupted once again.

"What book are you reading?" Tanjiro inquired. "I'm reading Rashōmon by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa." Muichiro answered quietly.

Now, most people weren't really into old books, but Muichiro was. He would read and collect old, or classic is a better word, stories.

Tanjiro nodded and the two sat in silence, though it wasn't awkward, which was strange for Muichiro.

Muichiro knew that he should ask Tanjiro to prom, but he was just too scared of rejection. He figured that Tanjiro would already have a date. With how many people asked him, this was a high probability.

Muichiro would just ask him when they were at the library later.

The rest of the school day went by very quickly for Muichiro, and he headed off to the library to work.

When he arrived, he noticed that Tanjiro got there first.
"Hello again, Tanjiro." Muichiro greeted shyly. Tanjiro returned the greeting.
"Oh! Hey Tokito!"

The pair started to work together on the project before Tanjiro asked the one question Muichiro didn't want to hear. "So, do you have a date for prom?"

"Oh... Um... No, I don't." Muichiro quietly replied. "Me neither." Tanjiro responded. Muichiro was shocked to find out that Tanjiro, of all people, didn't have a date to prom.

"Why not? I figured that you would have a date already." Muichiro states. "Oh, I get what you mean, though I am waiting to ask my crush. I am just scared that they won't like me back or say yes." Tanjiro answered.

"Same here. I've been wanting to ask my crush out, but I'm too scared of rejection. I get why I would be scared, though I don't see why you are. Pretty much half the school wants to date you." Muichiro said.

"It's still scary, though." Tanjiro said. "And why are you scared of rejection? Who wouldn't want to date you?" Tanjiro inquired.

Muichiro blushed slightly before answering with "Why wouldn't anyone want to date me? Because I'm just a background character who can barely speak up or even do something as simple as asking someone for a pencil without having an anxiety attack! I don't exactly have any friends who can help me. And I can't even talk to my own brother about my problems! I also can't bring myself to ask anyone to do something with me because I know that they will just find me boring and leave me after less than ten minutes. That's why I'm scared of rejection." Muichiro stayed surprisingly calm and steady the entire time he said this, almost as of he'd learned to lock his emotions away.

Tanjiro was a bit surprised about what the (slightly) younger boy had to say.

"I don't think all of that's true..." Tanjiro stated. "And about you having no friends, I can help you with that."

Muichiro looked at him curiously, wondering how he would help. "I can be your friend, if you want..." Tanjiro said.

Muichiro was a bit shocked and surprised that he finally got a friend, but kept his emotions to himself and just nodded.

The two soon finished the section of their project that they were working on today and started packing up to leave.

Muichiro was about to leave, but before he could, Tanjiro gently grabbed his wrist and said "Wait- Muichiro, before you leave, I was wondering- if you would like to go to prom with me?"

Blush dusted both Muichiro and Tanjiro's faces as Muichiro replied with "Yes! I would love to." while smiling a real smile.

The two boys said their goodbyes and went their seperate ways. When Muichiro got home, Mitsuri was already setting the table for everyone. It was at that moment that Muichiro realized that he hadn't eaten all day.

"Oh! Hello Muichiro! How was school?" Mitsuri asked enthusiastically. "It was... fine." Muichiro answered, though he knew that to day was more than just 'fine'.

I mean- he got a friend and got invited to the prom with his crush that he had been so scared to ask out.

Soon, everyone was at the dinner table eating their food. Just like every other night. Though, Muichiro thought that maybe this never-ending cycle of his would finally break. Only time will tell
