I know there's not many of you reading this, but, thank you if you are. There's some CW for this chapter for nonconsensual stuff. However, the grossness of that will be rewarded with what we've all been waiting for ☺️❤️

(also: idc that ACOTAR didn't exist yet. Let reader enjoy her bat boy in peace.)

❤️ you guys. Have a safe and happy new year.

You sit in the backseat of the Impala with your eyes and mind focused on your very worn book in your lap. It's probably the 43rd time you've read it, but it's fucking good. Every time Dean caught you with it, he made fun of you for your "fairy" book. 'Fae.' You'd remind him. There's a difference... right? A Fae book with magic and romance and violence is totally cooler than a fairy book. Totally.

You let the silence that had fallen between the three of you grow wider as you sank beneath the stars of Velaris in your mind.

You don't even notice when Dean stops at a gas station and turns off the car, he had even started speaking, but you and Sam weren't paying attention. "Alright. I figure we'd hit Tucumcari by lunch. Then head south, hit Bisbee by midnight." Dean turns his head to see that Sam was busy on his phone and you were still reading, both of you not bothering to look up. "Sam wears women's underwear and Blue is a loser."

"Shut up, Winchester." You shut your book, thinking to yourself that the love interest of your story would never speak to you like that. Why are fictional men ALWAYS better than the real thing? Perhaps that why you hadn't ever bothered to entertain one in a romantic sense.

"I'm listening. I'm just busy." Sam mumbles, clicking on something.

"Busy doing what?" Dean asks, stepping outside of the car to fill up the tank.

"Reading emails." Sam answers, still not looking up.

"Emails from who?" You ask, now just as curious as Dean. You sit forward and rest your chin on the front seat. Dean peaked his head inside the car to glance at his brother... then you. A faint smile
on his lips as he spies the book resting on the backseat.

"From my friends at Stanford." Sam says simply, glaring at his brother when Dean scoffs.

"You're kidding." Dean chuckles. "You still keep in touch with your college buddies?"

"Why not?" Sam asks, defensive.

"Well," Dean slides the pump into place in the gas tank before returning to the open door to finish his sentence. "What exactly do you tell them, you know, about where you been. What you've been doing."

"I tell them I'm a road trip with my big brother and best friend." Sam explains. "I told them I needed some time off...after Jess."

"Well, so you lie to them." Dean points out.

"Dean—" You loose a sigh of annoyance.

"No." Sam argued. "I just don't tell them everything."

"Not everyone needs to know your business, Sammy. I do... but, I have special privileges." You nod with a smile.

Sam looks at you, thankful for the backup as he matches your smile.

Sam turns his head to look at Dean again when the older speaks again, not letting the subject go. "Hey, man, I get it." Dean says, trying to keep a smirk hidden. "Telling them the truth is far worse."

"So, what am I supposed to do? Just cut everyone out of my life?" Sam asks, Dean just shrugs his shoulders. "You're serious?"

"Look, it sucks." Dean admits. "But in a job like this, you can't get close to people."
