Desperation can make people do crazy things to get what they want.

And with less than a month before Dean ends up in Hell, knowing Lilith's name has started to feel less like progress and more like another dead end. A name does not tell you where she is. It does not tell you how to summon her, trap her, kill her, or force her to let Dean out of his deal. It does not tell you why every demon who hears her name looks more afraid of her than they are of you.

So you start scraping at uglier methods.

That is how you end up in the middle of the woods, hidden away in one of the many cabins Bobby keeps tucked off the map, with a low-level demon tied to a chair for company.

You might have tricked him into making a bargain. He might have been stupid enough to step right into the devil's trap painted beneath his feet. Either way, that part is on him.

Hours later, he still has not cracked. It isn't as if you are trying to ruin the person he is riding, at least not permanently. Holy water and salt can do plenty without leaving much behind besides burns, smoke, and a hoarse throat from all the screaming. But it is not getting you any closer to a real answer. The demon only keeps squirming against the ropes, skin sizzling each time another splash of holy water hits him, making himself look pitiful even though all three of you know better than to feel sorry for anything wearing black eyes.

Now he is playing victim, begging Dean to stop while he fights uselessly against his restraints. You stand with your arms crossed over your chest and watch him plead, unmoved by the performance. You are not letting Dean stop until the demon gives you something worth hearing. So far, all he has offered is one snarky comment after another, a few useless rounds of "I don't know," and enough whining to make your migraine threaten an early arrival.

Dean lets the demon breathe for a minute, which is about as generous as he seems willing to get. He wants the thing to feel every burn before he starts again, wants the body to settle just enough that the next round will hurt properly.

"You ready to talk?" Dean asks for what has to be the thousandth time.

"I don't know." The demon drags in another breath, his chest heaving beneath the ropes. "I don't know anything."

"Oh, you hear that, guys?" Dean asks, glancing over at you and Sam with something almost amused pulling at his mouth. "He doesn't know anything."

"I'm telling you the truth," the demon says.

You scoff, because of course he is. "Oh, you are? My God, then we owe you an apology." Your voice is sweet with sarcasm as your eyes drop to the jug of holy water in Dean's hand. "Dean, why don't you make it up to him? I think he's a little thirsty after all this hard work."

Dean seems to like that idea. He steps into the devil's trap and grabs the demon by the jaw, forcing his head back before pouring the holy water straight down his throat. The demon chokes and gags, his body jerking hard enough to make the chair scrape against the floor, smoke curling from his lips as the water burns its way through him from the inside. Dean holds him there for another second before letting go and stepping back, watching him cough and spit like the sight might eventually get boring.

"I'm gonna ask you one last time," Dean says, his voice dropping into something rougher. "Where is Lilith?"

The demon lifts his head slowly, black eyes gleaming beneath the cabin lights. "You boys really don't listen, do you? You don't find Lilith. She finds you."

Dean's mouth tightens.

You step closer before he can pour another round of holy water. "Then tell us how to make that happen."
