Mr. Alonzo's POV

When I'm not working, I usually just stare out the giant window on the fifth floor of my mansion. I couldn't help but wonder why my son is always lying, it's almost as if he doesn't trust me.

I know he lied about why he wanted to switch schools. Why wouldn't I know? I'm the one who taught him how to lie in the first place.

Of course, I didn't know the real reason he decided to transfer. I only knew he lied and I had to wait for him to tell me, which he was going to tell me eventually, he had to.

Creak. "Father, can I speak with you?" Carlos said as he opened the door to my office.

"Okay, make it quick. I'm a busy man you know," I stated.

"Yeah of course," Carlos began, "Why do you trust Stephanie so much? I mean I barely know her YOU barely know her. You trust her enough with our family secret? I had to wait until my ninth birthday because you thought I'd run my mouth about you being some elite detective, this is absurd!"

"I've been watching Stephanie for longer than you think," I said, taking a sip of my coffee, "She had only one friend besides you, a girl named Elizabeth."

Carlos had an annoyed look on his face, "Whatever. I guess you like her more than you like me, don't you?"

"You're my son, I wouldn't trade you for the world," I assured him.

"Yeah but you'd trade me for a pistol," Carlos said vociferously , "When was the last time we even had dinner together? Or breakfast? Or even had a conversation with each other?"

"You're more than just my son, you're a spy," I said, "Stephanie is nothing compared to you."

"Thats a lie! You wouldn't have picked her to do this stupid mission with me then! I could do it alone, Stephanie's great and all but I don't need her!" Carlos cried.

"You're getting all worked up over nothing. Stop acting petulant," I stated.

Carlos threw his phone at the wall and slammed the door shut, "I don't need anything you bought for me with your dirty money! I hate this and I hate you!"

What did I do to deserve such a pathetic son?  I raised him to never raise his voice and to never stand out. Why was he suddenly so expressive?

Surprisingly, the phone wasn't broken and the screen protecter was only a little bit chipped. I found another screen protector in my draw and took off the new one. After replacing it, I set the phone down on my desk. I knew Carlos would need it sooner or later and take it.

Ding!  His phone had gotten a message and I tried to resist the urge to check it. About ten seconds later I couldn't help but see what the message said.

Stephanie: 'Ugh I met this really rude guy that apparently went to your old school earlier today. I wouldn't be surprised if he bullied you in your old school.'

I guess his past was easier to find out about than I thought.
