Stephanie's POV
(BTW I GOT RID OF ENZO, ALL OF HIS DIALOGUE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO BROOKE BC I WANTED 2 GIRLS 2 BOYS TO MAKE IT EVEN. ALSO, ITS MY FRIENDS BROTHER'S NAME SO YEAH.)
Carlos called to inform me about our next mission a few hours ago. We spent about an hour on the phone together discussing our plan but to be honest, just hearing his voice was nice.
I saw Tristan throwing bread off of the bridge again. He was leaning against the rail with his arms folded and watching the ducks intensely.
I approached him with a light smile and stood next to him, "I always see you hanging around here. You must really like the ducks, yeah?"
"Yeah," he said, "I adore them!"
I hadn't known Tristan for too long but watching him fawn over ducks was like watching a child happily watch fish swim around in a tank. He was smiling. I couldn't remember the last time I saw him smile, if I even did ever see him smile.
"What's so special about them?" I asked, "No offense but they're just ducks."
He tossed a piece of bread towards a lonely duck in the corner but before the duck could get it, the other ducks fought over it despite having already eaten some bread.
Maybe I just had anger issues but I never knew that I could get so mad over some ducks being greedy, fighting over a piece of bread.
Tristan threw another piece to the right and the ducks fought over that one piece of bread. He threw a handful of pieces towards the duck in the corner. The duck ate one piece but swam away without eating the other pieces.
"Like you said, they're just ducks, right?" he laughed, "To me, they are a lot more than that."
I nodded and continued to rip up the piece of bread Tristan had given me. He was ripping up his piece and tossing the pieces towards the ducks again.
"Aren't they so adorable?" he commented softly, "I want to admire them until I die."
"Well, I guess you got some time to admire them then," I said optimistically.
"Yeah," he sighed, "Lots of time."
"Why do you do this every day?" I asked.
"I've loved the ducks since I was four," he said smiling, "My father used to rip up pieces of bread, give me a bag of it, and we'd feed the ducks together. He's not dead or anything, just busy working I guess."
"I get it," I sympathized, "My mom is always busy working."
"See that lonely duck in the corner?" he said, "I named him Phil."
"How do you know thats it's a male?" I asked, "All of them look the same to me."
"The neck and their beak," he said, "The females and males look a bit different in that way."
He really did love ducks.
"I ate a duck once," said a voice behind us, "For thanksgiving!"
Tristan swung his head around, "Brooke!"
I was trying to contain my laughter. Tristan and Brooke were facing each other and Tristan had this expression on his face that I couldn't put my finger on.
"I think duck might be my favorite kind of meat," she said, "With mashed potatoes on the side!"
Tristans eyes widened and he pursed his lips, "Brooke! Don't say that in front of the ducks!"
"Not like they can understand me," she replied, "Hey, ducks! I'm going to eat you!"
Tristan rolled his eyes and turned to me, "Her and I used to be friends."
"Used to be friends?" she exclaimed, "The hell you mean by that!"
"See you later," he said as he walked away and bite into the piece of bread he was holding.
At least I knew what to get him for his birthday.
Bonus Question:
-I don't usually do this but do you think Stephanie could've tried to find out more about Tristan another way? How? One with Tiffany?
-Do you think that Tristan will ever make a full recovery? Why or why not?
