Chapter 20. Shadows of the Past in Greece

ISABELLA'S POV:

I get a message on my phone. When I check it, my heart sinks another problem. Yes, it's a real problem this time. I decided to discuss it with my family after dinner. Pushing the worry aside, I return to my books.

Soon, it's dinner time. I freshen up and head downstairs to the dining room. Everyone is already seated. I go to Papa first, hugging him tightly, followed by all my brothers. Greeting them like this has become my daily ritual, and they love it. Their smiles reserved only for me always warm my heart.

I take my usual seat beside Aure, though sometimes it changes depending on my Papa or brothers. The staff begins serving dinner, and we eat while chatting lightly. After dinner, we all gather in the hall. I sit beside Andreano and tug at his shirt to get his attention. It takes a few attempts, but he finally looks at me.

Andreano: "Yes, baby? What happened?"

"I need to tell you and everyone something important." I said with hesitation.

Andreano: "Alright, baby. We're all listening".

"My exam timetable has been announced today". I blurted out quickly, scanning their faces for a reaction. Instantly, the smiles disappear, replaced by serious expressions.

Papa: "Alright, baby. Prepare well for your exams".

His calm yet serious tone doesn't change, and I can't tell if he's worried or just focused. We discuss the timetable for a while before retiring to our rooms. I follow my night routine, study for a bit, and then finally lie down in bed. Morning comes quickly, and we all gather at the dining table for breakfast.

Andreano: "When do your exams start, Bella?"

"In two weeks. But I have to visit the college in about a week and a half to collect my hall ticket, complete some documentation, and attend a few offline lectures arranged for online students". I replied politely.

Andreano: "Alright, baby. Focus on your preparation and don't stress, okay?"

Me: "Yes, Andre". Andre speaks to Papa in Italian.

THIRD PERSON POV:

Andreano: "Papà, la manderemo per l'esame e penso che uno di noi debba essere con lei, perché non voglio mandarla tutta sola".

Translation: Dad, we will send her for the exam, and I think one of us must go with her. I don't want her going alone.

Papa: "Alright, as you say."

After breakfast, everyone leaves for their respective work. Isabella stays in her room, focusing on her studies.

A week and a half later, in Andreano's office cabin:

Andreano: "I'm sorry, Dad. I can't go. Something important has come up unexpectedly, and I really need to handle it."

Leonardo: "I understand, Andre. If it weren't urgent, you wouldn't have refused. Unfortunately, I can't go either; a sudden issue in the business demands my attention".

Elio: "I wish I could help, but I have an emergency meeting in London tomorrow. I tried to reschedule it, but it's unavoidable".

Matt: "I can't leave either. My exams are around the corner".

Luca: "With Andre on a mission, I need to oversee things and tend to the injured guards. I'm sorry, but I can't go".

Aure: "Alright, I'll go with Angioletto. I can't join the mission or handle business, and I don't have exams, so I'm the best option. I'll take care of her".

Andreano: "Are you sure you can tolerate that lady?"

Aure: "Wait... do we have to stay there?"

Andreano: "Yes, I planned for Bella to stay with her mother while she was there. Since you're going, you'll stay with her".

Aure: "Alright, I'll stay. Don't worry".

Andreano: "Good. Pack your bags; the jet will be ready this afternoon".

At the Airport

The family gathers to bid Aure and Isabella farewell. Isabella looks heartbroken at the thought of leaving them, though she's slightly comforted by Aure's presence. Her brothers apologize for not being able to join her, and she forgives them with a smile.

Once inside the jet, she rests for a while before diving into her studies. It's a long journey to Greece. After a quiet evening of learning, they have dinner and retire for the night.

The next morning, Aure wakes her gently.

By afternoon, they landed in Greece. As they exit the airport, two cars filled with bodyguards follow them. Isabella sits silently in the car, her mood a mix of sadness and nervousness. Aure, noticing her discomfort, calls the Romano's, allowing everyone to talk to her for a few moments. Though she smiles briefly, the joy fades after the call ends.

Aure: "What's wrong, baby? Why do you look so sad?"

Isabella: "I don't know, Aure. I just have a bad feeling... maybe I'm worried about Ande".

Aure: "Don't worry, princess. He'll call you soon".

Isabella: "Okay".

Aure: "By the way, tell me about this place. We can explore it after your exams".

Me: "I don't know much. I've read about some places, but I've never visited them".

Aure is shocked by this revelation. She lived in Greece for five years but knows almost nothing about the place. Suspicion begins to brew in his mind.
