I want to marry her.
It has always been her and it will always be her. It killed me years ago seeing her with another man and I watched the whole time. Seeing her be happy until that happiness turned into darkness. I want to be the man that she can depend on, the man that wouldn't make her question her worth.
The man that makes her feel sure and feel loved unconditionally.
She deserves that, more than anything.
I want that to my duty, forever. I was never one to believe in marriage but my parents were a prime example of an ideal love. My father was captivated by my mother. He loved her with his whole heart that he would die for her as many time as he could. My mother came from a hard family and my father saved her.
Sadly their lives were cut short but I would never forget them, for what they stood for. My family was deeply feared and hated but they never gave into those who wanted to destroy them.
That is why I know I want Brooke to have my mother's ring. She reminds me a bit of my mother. Her resilience and her ability to love everyone around her. The moment that I saw her in that window when she first moved here, I knew.
The moment I saw her in the garden and she was startled by my presence, I couldn't stay away. I could never stay away.
I want her. Now, tomorrow and forever.
But I want to do this right. She has been married before, who knows if she wants it again? All I could hope is that she tries. That she wants to give me a chance, to believe in me.
To believe that I could be the one to honor my word and treat her the way that she needs and deserves.
And if I have to prove it more to her, I will.
I held the ring in my hand. I walked and walked until I found her. She was on the balcony, our favorite place.
It was honestly perfect.
She leaned against the railing as she looked off at the sunset. The sky was a perfect reflection of a soft orange along with a soft red, the clouds shined but made the scenery unreal.
I came up slowly behind her and my hand went on her waist. She smiled instantly as she knew that it was my touch. She turned her head to me and her eyes looked into mine.
Fuck that look of hers, that will make a man melt.
I take a deep breath. She instantly leans in and kisses me. She felt at peace, she felt at comfort.
Which is honestly all I ever want. For her to feel peace and comfort.
I moved my hand up and I brushed my hand through her hair. I looked into her eyes and I smiled. She looked back at me and I could tell she was curious.
Like if she knew I had something to say.
It's time.
My words lingered, a promise and a demand. I didn't kneel; I simply took her hand softly and I pressed a heavy, obsidian ring into her palm. "Not as a plaything, Brooke. As my partner."
