We were all in the back of the van still blindfolded, Dodge's hand gripped tightly in mine. The van stopped, Diggins and Summer helped all of us out of the van and lined us up. Honestly it felt like that one episode of The Walking Dead, where Negan's introduced. Just any second now till they bash one of our brains in.
"Welcome, players, to the elimination round." Diggins started.
"If it's true that what you don't know can never hurt you, than what you do know must come at a cost." He explained.
"Blind Man's Bluff challenges you to face three fears at once. Fear of darkness, fear of falling and fear of the unknown." A train whistle blew.
"Was that a train?" Drew asked, fear in his voice.
It obviously wasn't a train, it sounded like a whistle far away, but that sound couldn't have come from more than 10 feet in front of us.
"Winner of this challenge will move on to the individuals," Diggins went on. I heard the faint sound of water behind us. I have to remember to keep that water behind me.
"The challenge tonight is to make it off the bridge and back to the van. You can choose to walk blind, or you can ask for a hand, and we get to ask you a question."
"What kind of questions?" Natalie interrupted.
"Quid pro quo." Diggins said, like I was supposed to know what that meant.
"We help you and you help us."
"You can answer up to five questions, but you have one chance to do it once the timer starts. Points will be rewarded based on time. Anyone who takes longer than 20 minutes in automatically out."
They lead us all back to the van and one by one took us out for the challenge.
After two people, it was finally my turn.
Summer and Diggins led me out onto the bridge, the water sound overcoming me. I just have to turn around and walk, that's all.
"Lilia Sloan, your time starts now." Diggins told me.
I slowly turned around, trying to keep my balance. I checked the area with my foot, making sure there was another beam before I took a step.
I was probably halfway back when a big way hit below us, knocking me off balance. I stumbled, my knee falling on one of the metal railroad bars. Fuck, I wasn't walking straight now.
"I'd really suggest you let us help you, Lilia." Diggins said, I could hear the worry in his voice.
I stood back up, I tried to feel out for a beam in front of me but nothing. I had no clue which way to go.
"Fuck," I muttered.
"Fine Diggins, help me." I sighed.
"I suggest you move to the left."
I felt it out with my leg before moving, I found the metal bar I had fallen on. I moved back to the other side of bar, at least now I knew I was going straight.
But what question were they going to ask me?
I made it back to the van in 10 minutes. Not too bad if I do say so myself.
"Okay, Lilia. We helped you so it's time you help us."
"Let's get it over with." I sighed.
"So, Dodge." Diggins started.4
"What about him?" I asked.
"It's pretty obvious that you two are dating, it's pretty obvious that you care about him- and that he cares about you."
"Can we just get to the question?"
"Why is the question."
"What do you mean 'Why'?" I asked.
"Why do you care about him? A girl like you could have anyone she wants, why the new kid who always stays to himself?"
"Well..." I sighed.
"I've had a crush on him since he moved here. I don't know why, I guess I'm so use to this town- these people, that getting a new person was exciting. Even more so that he was a mystery- I had everyone in this town figured out, but I couldn't figure him out."
"And then we started hanging out, all of my friends told me to man up and tell him how I felt- how obvious it was that he felt the same way, but I couldn't see it. I guess I was too focused on figuring him out that everyone else figured it out before me. Dodge is complicated, his life is messy, but I love messy- hell- no one in this town's life is messier than mine. He gets me in a way no one else does. He makes me feel seen, he taught me that I deserve love- my dad made me think I wasn't worthy of anyone's love- so for Dodge to make me feel like that..." I sighed.
"I love him. I love him for his mess, I love him for his broken parts." I paused.
"I swear my heart stops every time I'm with him." I laugh.
"I love him."
"Thank you, Lilia."
"You can take off the blindfold now," Summer added.
"Fucking finally,"
