Kizzie's gala dress.
Welcome to most people's favorite Peaky episode lol. We get spooky sapphires and foreshadowing. It's been awhile since I've written a longer chapter, so please enjoy!
I don't love trigger warnings but Wattpad gets mad if I don't mention them. So trigger warning for a certain priest.
CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE
The sapphire around Grace's neck unnerved Kizzie just as it did when Tommy showed it to her in the restaurant.
It rose every hair on her body. Kizzie couldn't explain why. Not even when Tommy asked why she didn't want to take a closer look at it.
"You don't like it?" he had asked her. There was no disappointment. He assumed she wouldn't like it. His lambkin sometimes had an inversion to peculiar textures and shines. Diamonds and jewels especially.
"Where did it come from?"
Tommy placed the sapphire on the table. "The Russians. Payment for my work so far... I wanted to give it to you. But I had a feeling you wouldn't want it."
Kizzie cocked her head at the giant thing on the table. A darkness bloomed in her tummy the longer she stared at it. She was scared to touch it. "It is pretty." And it was. Kizzie had never seen a jewel so big and vibrant before. She took a small sip of soda. "But scary."
Tommy's smile fell. "The feel of it?"
Kizzie shook her head. "No. Its colors are dark. Makes me feel...unwell." She met his gaze. "Blue like how people who don't know you feel when they meet you."
"So this is a good thing, then?"
"I guess so." But the moment she said these words, a chill went through her. Tommy put the jewel back into his pocket and resumed eating. Said he'd give it to Grace before her fundraiser dinner, which wasn't until a few more weeks.
"I'm sorry, Kizzie," Grace told her as she helped getting Charles to sleep. She was already dressed. Hair pressed and makeup exquisite. "Alfred Solomons denied the invitation."
"Oh."
"But between you and me, I think Tommy denied it for him. I had no problem with bringing the man." Grace tucked her son into his crib. "He was well behaved at your party. But Thomas worries, you know that."
"Okay."
Kizzie had to fight the simmer of anger from bubbling over. She wanted to see Alfie. Needed to see him. Hadn't in months and only in dreams where he kissed her so sweetly.
"Finish getting ready, Kizzie. We're be leaving shortly."
Kizzie cleared her throat. "Oh, I'm already done... I will be riding with Finn and my brothers tonight."
