A Deadly Premonition

Moira had finally pulled her car into the driveway. Her feet felt heavy as she got out of her vehicle and unlocked the front door to walk through it. Once it was locked again, she slipped her boots off, found some loungewear in her bedroom, and then went to the kitchen to grab some junk food and drinks to enjoy. She sat on the sofa, letting the snacks fall from her hands onto the coffee table and setting her drinks on the tiny stand at the one end of the sofa.

One snack and drink later, she began to reflect on the day. She decided to force herself not to think about the case for the rest of the night. It was making her frustrated. Instead, she started her reflection on meeting and interacting with Connor.

First time I've met a deviant android. He definitely is a character. Rather amazing that a machine can evolve past its programming. I might be witnessing a new race of beings. It's been a long time since something has caught my attention that much. I'm glad my past has been left out of databases. So far, so good. Although, if Connor is going to be by my side on this case, I'm going to have to think through all my words and actions more than I ever have. Then again, most of the world does not know of anything outside their own sphere of influence.

After consuming all their confections and drinks, Moira cleaned up and got herself ready for bed. It was not long before sleep overtook her. It was short-lived, as she bolted upright in bed. She was trying to catch her breath as her head possessed an intense pressure that throbbed with every rapid beat of her heart. She focused her energy, her mind; and within a minute, the pain left and her breathing slowed. However, she was not going to attempt to sleep the night away. She got up and headed for the living room.

Moira was going to game the night away. She pulled Devil May Cry 5 and started a bloody palace run. She wanted all her focus on a distraction and not on the nightmare she had experienced. It felt just as real just as it had been long ago. She had no idea why she had experienced it again and, at the moment, she did not want to dwell on it. It was too much. It was past she had purposefully shoved into an abyss to forget about. To live free from it; to live how she wanted: that is the only future she wanted.

Floor after floor, she was two floors away from the end fight in the game. However, just as she was about to move to the next level, a single thought crossed her mind and made her lose the fight. It was a thought that the more she dwelled on, the more it enraged her.

"No. No! I'm not going to do it. But it won't happen! It can't happen. Because it can't happen, there is nothing to worry about. Why am I even considering it?! This is my life and I'm not going to let a little nightmare manipulate me!"

She restarted the bloody palace run. She would stay like this until it was time to head to the DCPD. Sleep was on hold until a later date. Rightnow, she was going to enjoy the few hours of late night gaming that was left.
