"Huh? A window?"
Luffy questioned with a confused facial expression, holding onto a small electronic device in his hand.
"It's a smartphone. They came out recently and you can use it to-"
“Luffy!! I can see youuuu!”
Sanji spoke through the device, interrupting Law's response to Luffy once he saw the Captain through the screen.
"SANJI'S TRAPPED!! Gum-gum no... PISTOL!"
"Don't do that, Mugiwara-ya. This was expensive."
The Surgeon warned, handing Luffy his phone again, once the boy understood how to use it properly.
"It's like one of the snail transponders, only with more advanced technology. Hold it up to your eyes like this, Blackfoot-ya is talking to you."
"I get it now." Luffy nodded, bringing the phone up to his face.
Still unsure of how to use the camera, the boy held it so close that he was making Sanji giggle on the other end of the video call.
Sanji: “What a clear view of your nostrils, Captain!”
Luffy: “Yup, I can see you now! Nishishi!!”
Sanji: “Everything okay? How are you feeling?”
Luffy's enthusiasm faded away for a second as he wasn't sure about what to say to Sanji.
He didn't want to lie and pretend that he was doing well, when in reality, he was in a considerable amount of pain.
But he knew that Sanji wasn't going through a walk in the park either, so he chose an answer that was neither a lie, or a brutally honest truth.
Luffy: “I'm okay, just a little sore... You know. How about you?”
He responded, smiling softly at the older man, relieved that he finally got to see him.
Sanji: “I'm waking up from the anesthesia now, but I don't really feel anything at all. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing, if I'm honest.”
The Cook chuckled, lightly. Luffy was left speechless again, indecisive of what to reply.
What his mind was telling him to say next, were words that he would really rather avoid telling his close friend, to not make him feel bad or upset in any way.
Sanji: “Guess we'll be here for a while, huh?”
Luffy: “Yeah... I wish I could leave already, though. I really wanna see the guys. I miss everyone.”
Sanji: “Me too. Especially Nami-San and Robin-Chan. If I could teleport myself back to the Sunny, I would. Even if I gotta cook while lying down on this hospital bed!”
The Captain smiled brightly at Sanji's determination, finding it inspirational.
Luffy: “I want a T-bone steak! A BIG ONE! I'll even help you make it, once you feel better!”
Sanji: “Haha! Well, you can watch. But you can't-”
The blonde man flinched, feeling an uncomfortable spasm on his bottom.
He pointed his camera away for a split second for Luffy to not notice his face while he squeezed his eyes shut.
Luffy: “Sanji?”
Sanji: “Yeah, I'm here. Sorry.”
The man relaxed himself, lifting the phone back up to his face.
