Dave lying on the floor of his cave, fast asleep, his shades sliding down his face slowly but steadily. Right before his shades could slide completely down his face and onto the cave floor, which could possibly crack them, his hand shot up and adjusted them, his eyes darting open.
He sat up, stretched and yawned before looking around the cave. It was completely empty, aside from a few rocks and the fish pile. Dirk was non were to be seen.
Huh, he must've gone to see his boyfriend, he thought, getting up and swimming towards the fish pile. He snabbed a fish off the top of the pile and took a bite out of it. He nearly gagged at the godawful taste, but he swallowed anyway. He needed the energy.
Bored out of his wits, he began to swim for Skaia, still munching on the fish. As he passed over THE HOLE, he dropped his remaining fish bits into the probably bottomless abyss.
It wasn't long before he arrived at Skaia. There were merpeople EVERYWHERE. Dave weaved his way through the endless crowd of teens towards the large dildo sculpture, where some familiar faces stood. Or actually, they were really just floating.
A cute boy with buck teeth, jet black hair, and a bright blue tail, and the sea witch everyone knew and loved (especially Kanaya) with eight purple tentacles instead of a fish tail.
AKA John and Rose; Dave's best friends.
As he swam forward, he greeted, "Sup, guys."
"Hi, Dave!!!" John said enthusiastically. Dave smiled. What a dork, he thought.
"Hello, David," Rose said, sarcasm hinted in her voice. Dave rolled his eyes, knowing that she knew how much he HATED being called David.
Sighing heavily, he asked, "So what were you guys talking about?"
"We were talking about the humans!"
John said enthusiastically and loudly."Shhh!!!" Both Rose and Dave slapped their hands to John's mouth.
"Are you crazy? Someone could hear you!!!" Dave whispered harshly.
John shrugged sheepishly as he pulled his friends' hands from his mouth.
"Sorry," he muttered.
"Anyway," Dave continued, barely raising his voice, "what exactly about the humans were you guys discussing?"
"Mainly the interesting things that humans have and we don't," Rose replied softly, "Namely, feet."
"Yeah! What's it like for them to just- what's the word?- walk around on their flesh stumps attached to their tails that aren't actually tails?"
"Legs," Dave corrected.
"Yeah, legs. How does someone swim like that?"
Dave thought for a moment. "I'm pretty sure it's a combination of moving their arms and legs at the same time. I don't really know; I'd have to ask Jade, Jake, or Karkat."
"Speaking of the humans," Rose began, "how exactly DID you all meet? You never really did clarify how this whole...situation... came to be."
John looked at Dave expectantly, which for some reason caused Dave to feel weird inside. "Yeah, Dave, you never did tell us how this all started."
"There really isn't much to explain," Dave sighed. "Dirk was screwing around, found Jake, came back, went back to Jake, I followed, and then shot happened."
John stared at him in awe. "Really? That's it?"
Woah, he's so cute when he's surpr-WAIT WHAT?!!
