19. A Whole Lotta Running (Part 2)

"So what do we do now?"

No one was entirely sure who said it, but everyone was sure as hell thinking it. There were two mermen in the pool of a SBURBan home (ayy B) )with at least ten miles between the pool and the ocean.

This wasn't gonna be easy.

And then an idea was thrown out into the still air.

"What about Equius? Do you guys think he could help us?" Jade asked.

The boys thought it over.

"Well, I mean, he is the only other person that knows about the merpeople," Karkat stated.

Jake countered, "Yeah, but how could he help us?"

"Doesn't his brother own a pickup truck, Karkat?"

"OH, HELL NO!" Karkat screeched. "I can already see where you're going with this, Jade, and it's not gonna work. Equius would not steal his brother's truck just so we can help our friends. You know how he is about following rules, and he doesn't even have his driving permit yet, let alone his liscense. Not to mention that he'd have to tell his brother why he needs the truck, which we all agreed we won't do. There is ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING WAY THAT EQUIUS IS GOING TO HELP US."

Jade crossed her arms. "Well, it wouldn't hurt just to ask him, would it?"

Karkat glared at her. "You know what, FINE. If you want to ask Equius so bad, why don't you ask him your own damn self!???!?"

"You know," Jade retorted, pulling out her phone, "maybe I WILL!!!" She punched numbers into the touch screen and held it up to her ear. She paused while it rang.

"Equius? Hey, it's Jade....Look, I need to ask you a favor. We need to borrow Horrus's truck to help Dirk and Dave......Why? Well, you see, they drank this potion that allowed them to become human for a few hours but it wore of and now they're in the Vantas's pool.....Don't worry! Karkat said it's a saltwater pool. They'll be fine.....Uh-huh.......I see...............It won't be easy but I'm sure we'll make it work. Thanks a ton, Equius!!! Bye!!!!"

Jade hung up, looking a little bit upset.

"He said he wouldn't help, didn't he?" Karkat asked with a smirk.

Jade grinned. "Oh no, he totally said he'd help us."

Karkat's smile dropped.

"He said that due to the circumstances, he would bend the rules a little bit for us. He said that he would hide his brother's keys in the big bush outside his house for us to take when everyone's asleep. I told him we would make it work and that was it. But I don't think any of have our licenses, so I don't know how-" 

"I have my license."

Everyone looked at Cronus.

"Really?"

"Yeah. What, did you just assume that none of us had our licenses?"

"Well....." Jade trailed off sheepishly.

"Yo, Jade," Dave called from the pool, getting bored of just sitting doing nothing. "You don't just make assumptions about people. It's kind of a dick move."

"You're a dick move!"

"Wow, great comeback, Jade."

"You know, we don't have to be helping you! We could just leave you to live in Karkat's pool for the rest of your life!"

The two teens continued to bicker as the other five stared at them.

"So," Dirk started, "When do we start?"

Jake replied, "I think it would be best if we did this tonight. There's bound to be less cars out and no one needs to see us shoving a pair of mermen into the back of a truck."

"Sounds good to me."

They were doing this.

They were making it happen.

"We should probably break those two apart, shouldn't we?" Kankri asked,

Karkat answered, "Meh, I'm sure those two dweebs will be fine."

No sooner had he said that, Jade furiously pounced into the pool on top of Dave, letting out a warrior cry.

It took a solid 20 minutes to separate Dave and Jade from their fight (they forgave each other because they forgot what they were even fighting about), and everyone agreed that they would be back there at 11:30 that night, not knowing that a creepy group of men wearing dark clothes were watching them from a dark van with the license plate, "MNTCRW".

HELLOOOO!!!! Hey, look! I actually updated for once!!! I'm sorry for the long wait, I've been going through a lot of shit lately (dance class, school, the death of my twin brother (don't send me condolences, I'm sick of hearing them), homework, writers block, etc.) but I am really trying to update more often. I'll try to have the next chapter up within a month, and try to become more regular from there. And when the next chapter comes out, I'll probably merge the two parts of this one.
