Chapter Five

We all returned to Kings Landing the next morning. Mother was extremely quiet the whole ship ride home, even excusing herself to her chambers when we had returned. " Take the day to relax." Father smiled at us. " It has been a long trip, you will return to your lessons tomorrow. Hopefully, my grandsons will be home to join you.". Rhaenyra and her sons had stayed for another day. Laenor was too upset to leave his sisters side.

I slowly turned my head to Aemond. " How are you feeling?" I asked. " I've been giving strong medication from the maester. It's more of a numbing pain.". " Did it hurt?" I asked quietly." When they took your eye?", " Of course it hurt you idiot" Aegon spat at me. " How would you feel if your eye was cut out." He rolled his eyes at me. " I'm sorry, you're right it was a stupid question.", " It hurt, I can't even describe the pain I felt. It's something I hope you never have to suffer Visenya.". Aemond spoke up.

Aegon rolled his eyes at us. " Have you spoken to mother yet about your betrothal?" Aemond asked, trying to stir the conversation. " No, she's a shell of herself since she attacked Rhaenyra. It's been impossible to speak to her about anything.". " She needs time and space from everyone. The rumours say she's gone mad.". I spoke up. " Hopefully, she snaps out of it soon so I can get this issue out of the way.".

Aegon gave me a soft smile. " I already told you I will not marry you, Aegon.". " We'll see what happens." He shrugged. I suddenly felt a pain in my abdomen, I had felt a numbing pain this morning, but it suddenly intensified. " What's wrong with you?" Aegon asked." I have a pain in my stomach. " I took in a deep breath." It has been there all morning.".

Heleana suddenly gasped and stood behind me. " Heleana?" I asked. " I shall walk you to mother's chambers. I will stand behind you the entire time." I nodded my head and took my leave with Heleana.

We made it to mothers' chamber doors. Heleana knocked on the wooden doors. " Mother, it's Heleana and Visenya. It's happened.". I looked at Heleana, confused, grabbing my stomach as another pain shot through me. The door opened, and Mother rushed us inside and closed the door behind us.

" Mother, what's happening?" I asked." I think you are having your first bleed, sweet girl.". " Now?", " Yes, Heleana, please grab the maester while I look after Visenya in the washroom.". Mother escorted me into her washroom and closed the door. " Take off your dress, Visenya, and I'll have a look." I nodded and untied my dress, stepping out of the material and gasping when I saw my white undergarments  underneath was stained red.

" It's okay Visenya, this will happen a few times while your body is trying to regulate your bleed.". " I didn't expect it to be so messy." Mother gave me a smile. " Yes, it can be messy, but I will teach you how to keep it clean.". A few moments later, Heleana came in with the maester. " Ah, the princess has finally received her first bleed. This is good news, your grace.".

I picked at my nails with nerves as the maester stared at my blood-stained dress. " Unfortunately, your bleeds can be messy and uncomfortable for you, princess. However, that is where I come in.". The maester handed me a cup with hot tea inside. " This should help with your pains, and if you need anything, you can always come to me.". " Thank you, maester." I smiled, drinking the tea slowly.

" Now these," the maester handed me a bunch of cloths. You put these in your undergarments, and it will stop your bleed from staining your clothes or seeping down your legs.". I nodded and took them from his hands. " May I ask, how long will I bleed?", " Your bleed will last between five days to seven days a moon cycle, and you will bleed until your change comes about you when you are much much older.".

I nodded my head and smiled. " Okay.". " I know this is a lot of information to give you at once, princess, but I assure you everything will be fine. Your mother and sister went through the same thing, and they are perfectly fine. It is just a matter of getting used to it.". " Of course, thank you, maester.". The maester bowed to us and left, leaving me with my mother and sister.

" Heleana, why don't you fetch my handmade. Tell her the three of us will be having tea and cakes. I'll get a servant to fill up the bath and fetch Visenya a new dress while we wait.". Heleana had got the servants to fill up mother's bath for me and informed them of the tea.

I soaked in mother's bath, the hot water felt amazing against my aching stomach. " It feels good doesn't it?" Mother smiled. " Hot baths are perfect during your bleed.". " Does it always hurt this much?" " It can, I feel the first day of your bleed is the worst but once you get used to it, it shouldn't hurt as much and if it does you can always get some tea from the maester to help.".

Mother and Heleana helped me with the cloths in my undergarments before helping me into my new dress. We all sat down for our tea and cakes, just enjoying each others company. We haven't had a mother, daughter day in a few moons. It felt nice to have this time with my mother and sister.

" Do I have to marry Aegon?" Heleana suddenly asked. " If the King can not find a match for him then we will wed you both. Targaryens always wed siblings together to keep the blood line pure.". Mother spoke before sipping her tea. " He does not wish to marry me.". Mother sighed " I know he wishes to wait a few years.". " Aegon has asked Visenya to marry him.".

Mother froze and turned to me in surprise. " He did?" She asked me with a look. I swallowed the nerves I had and nodded " He did, at the funeral.". " That's not like Aegon.". " I refused. He only wishes to wed me so he can wait a few more years to marry.". " You have bled now. The King can wed you to anyone now if he wishes.". My eyes widened " What? I don't want to marry yet.". " Shhh sweet girl. I will not let wed you off so young. As a princess the King won't arrange a wedding until you are of age.".

" Will he start looking for an arrangement for me? Now that I've bled?" " I suppose he will, however no marriage will be accepted yet. You have many years left Visenya, you need not worry about it now.".

After our tea with mother, Heleana and I met up with our brothers in the shared space we had. " Our sisters have finally shown themselves" Aegon smirked " You two ran off in a hurry." " Visenya bled through her dress, I couldn't let her embarrass herself.". Heleana spoke before sitting in the corner. Aemond and Aegon stared at me " You had your first bleed?" Aemond asked

I nodded " Yes, mother and the maester were very helpful.". " Congratulations sister" Aemond smiled " Thank you Aemond.".

The six of us sat down for dinner that night. The big table felt so empty with Rhaenyra and her family absent. We all ate quietly before father cleared his throat " Visenya, the maester told me you have had your first bleed.". My face went red as I nodded " Yes your grace, I received it today.". " This is wonderful " Father smiled " My youngest daughter has become a woman."

Father gave mother a smile before he turned back to me " You know what this means?" Father asked. " I am fit to marry and bear my husband children.". I nodded " Yes, however I feel you are too young to wed off. You are still a child in my eyes, however, I will start by looking for a marriage for you so when you come of age you can be happily married as my Rhaenyra was.".

" What house will I marry into?" I asked. " That depends on the Lords of Westeros. If they have sons close to your age then he will be a contender to you.". I nodded my head " I hope whomever I marry isn't too far from home.". Father smiled and leaned back in his seat " What is it my love?" Mother asked " Nothing" He smiled. " Let us raise a cup to Visenyas change and toast to our family health.".
