Three Years Ago
"I can't!" I screamed a sob out as Dean's face was next to mine while he helped keep one of my legs pulled back.
"Yes you can, Pais. You're the strongest girl I've ever met. You've got this. A big push, honey," he encouraged as I let out a scream gripping his arm.
"Why did you get me pregnant?" I sobbed dropping my head next to his.
"You can't give out on me now, Ms. Sterling. Baby's head is almost there, that's the hardest part," the doctor encouraged as he patted my calf.
I shook my head against Dean's as my body shook.
"Give me a sec, doc," he smiled at him then turned to me. "Paisley, sweetheart you can do this, okay? Just think about what it's gonna feel like when the baby is out and you're holding him."
"You don't know if it's a boy," I couldn't help the sob.
"Pais," he chuckled. "Wrong thing to focus on from that. I know it hurts, baby, but you got this. Now take my hand, squeeze what you need and help the baby slide out, okay?"
I took a deep breath and nodded as I grabbed his hand and sat up slightly. I looked at the doctor whom nodded and I gripped Dean's hand as I groaned through clenched teeth. I let out a big breath as we heard the wails as the baby fell out and the doctor held it up.
"Mom and dad, you have a healthy baby girl!" he announced as he laid her on my chest.
"Dean," I sobbed as I looked up at him and he looked down at us with tears in his eyes.
"My two girls. I'm so proud of you, Paisley," he kissed my forehead then gently kissed her head.
Six Months Later
I woke up in a cold sweat and slowly sat up in bed and looked beside me to read the clock. 2:30 am. I looked next to me to see Dean still sound asleep so I looked over him to see the baby monitor on his side table. I quietly leaned over him to grab it and take a closer look at it. He let in a deep breath and moved his head around before looking up at me tiredly.
"What's wrong?" he asked huskily.
"Nothing," I starred at the screen showing her small sleeping body.
"Sweetheart, she's okay," he sighed as he sat up taking the monitor from my hands and putting it back on the table. He brought me into his side rubbing my bicep.
"No, I know."
"You have that scared look on your face."
"I just had a bad dream is all," I sighed as my finger traced circles on his chest. "You made sure all the prote — "
A bang stopped the words from coming out of my mouth as I shot up in bed looking at the doorway. I turned my head toward the baby monitor not registering that Dean was already out of bed looking for his sweats. I grabbed the monitor and looked at the screen closely seeing a figure in the corner by the head of her crib. It looked up at the camera as if knowing I was watching then walked forward. Eleanor began to whimper.
I dropped the monitor on the bed completely disregarding my need for pants and ran out of the room.
"Paisley, don't," Dean whispered harshly.
