With Bumpy being back it changed the way their days went. Louise couldn't be mad with it because it was nice having days and weeks that were different sometimes, and Ben had really made a connection with Bumpy, who didn't necessarily like or dislike Louise, but she thought that Bumpy was warming up to her as Bumpy observed Louise taking care of Ben, especially after when he first initially defeated Toro.
Ben was with Louise less and the independency that Louise experienced was good and bad, she had gotten used to Ben being around and when he wasn't it was quiet. He liked to walk with Bumpy in the morning and sometimes Louise would join them, but today, she hadn't and Ben didn't come back....
She could feel a pit growing in her stomach, he was with Bumpy, so he was okay, right? Why didn't he say anything before leaving? Maybe something just came up...But what could possibly "come up" when they're in a jungle? To take her mind off it cause she was sure that he must've gotten lost.....Louise decided to see if she could improve his camp.
It was fine, it would work, it does work. But it works better for just Ben and not for the both of them. Ben enjoyed Louise sleeping by his side and Ben had plenty of more stories to tell now that Bumpy was back! He could talk about her without getting upset.
Louise walked ALL the WAY back to her camp and picked up the pile of branches she was going to use for her hut and then walked ALL THE WAY back to Ben's camp, which was now really their camp. She dropped the branches down and they all made an almost clinking sound? She then pulled some leaves off of the bushes and placed them down on the ground. Louise wasn't sure what she would be exactly doing but....She just needed a distraction.
Looking for Ben wasn't necessary, he was with his dinosaur. He was with his dinosaur. Louise ran the blade of her pocketknife over a rock to sharpen it. Then she stood up and took a few steps back, visualizing what she could build and where she could put it. Louise drew in the dirt with the tip of her Converse shoes, "Branch, leaves..." She thought.
Rustle. Louise jumped out of her skin.
"Louise?" Ben called out for her as he stepped out of the grass and onto the dirt, Louise exhaled with relief before running over to him, "Oh, Ben! You scared me!" Louise said before she hugged him with only one of her arms. "What—Where did you go?!" Louise asked, rather frantically. "You can't run off."
Bumpy stood a few feet away from them and it was almost if her body was blocking something. Ben was surprised by the hug, but he could understand why she was worried about him. "Yeah, Louise....I'm sorry about that, but it's a good reason I promise..." Ben lovingly embraced her back, giving her a gentle hug.
And then a voice spoke, "Ben, where did you take us?" A girl.
"Oh, uh..." Ben said as their hug broke but Ben still stayed close to her because he wasn't sure how she'd react to all of this. Louise looked over to where the voice had came from and she could see from the corner of her eye, that tall black hair....Now she was sure she was going crazy!
There was a chance that Ben was real because why would her mind make up a whole elaborate death story for Ben! But....him and her? Bumpy moved her head down to eat some grass and....There he was....Kenji and there she was....Brooklynn.
Louise glanced over at Ben and he nodded, almost confirming that they were real. Louise stared in pure shock. She was frozen, not even the way her heart was aching could make her move. Louise and Ben weren't the last ones on the island! Good for them, but that meant....The others never got off.
The others never got off on the ferry, like Ben and Louise thought. After her sacrifice and Ben's monorail accident....Well that was where the story gets confusing. How did they all survive out here? Did they hear Louise's scream of pain and didn't put two in two together? Did they not hear Ben either?!
