"Hello, Primrose, right?" Caesar started, and I released a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Prim, please." I said, and he nodded. "So, Prim, how are you?" I smiled at him. "I'm good. How are you?" He looked pleased. "Good, good. So, what's it like at home after the war?" He cut straight to the point. "Well, things have been good. Less people in 12 are starving, and we're getting more of the coal we mine. The rebuilds have been amazing. I think we're almost done actually." I explained. "Oh lovely."
He paused distractedly. "Well, you're a beautiful young girl, do you have any guys back home?" He asked, and I blushed. "Gosh Caesar, I remember two years ago watching you ask Peeta the same question about my sister." He nodded and we laughed.
"How did it feel to be so young on the feild that last day?"
I thought back. I locked eyes with Katniss, and she realized mom and I were there. Then somebody got shot, and mom left my side to help them. And I never saw her again, the bombs went off immediately.
"It was unreal, Caesar. I mean, I got to watch the bombs go off, I think the force, I landed on my wrist wrong, that hurt for a couple days. It was scary, but there weren't many medica that could go, the younger the better I suppose. But none will ever know why Coin decided to send me really."
I felt my eyes water, and Caesar must have seen it. "Thank you, Prim. It was wonderful meeting you." He said quietly. I nodded in agreement and left the room, back into the room where everyone was waiting. I found Katniss and burried my head into her. I wasn't crying, but definitely feeling.
One by one, the interviews continued. Annie was after me, and she seemed nervous, clutching Finnick against her closer and closer. After Annie, who sat next to me solely, was Haymitch. They wanted to get him done before he was too drunk. He walked back in the room, and didn't even sit before he chugged the rest of his liquor. Johanna came in after hers screaming. Gale and Beete were after her. Beetee came in grumbling about how rude they are and the lack of equipment, while Gale seemed dissatisfied with himself. Finally Katniss and Peeta went into the room, and they took the longest.
"Idiot. He asked us about marriage and kids, about Prim and Haymitch, about mom, about Peeta's family, literally everything." Katniss grumbled after her twenty minute interview. Peeta laid his arm around her shoulder and she leaned her head into him.
Paylor came in and congratulated us. Then ushered us into a bus. We drive for about fifteen minutes and everyone was telling the next about their interviews.
"Roll out." Paylor mumbled, and we arrived at an open yard. There were millions of headstones. Katniss slipped her hand into mine, and I squeezed it. "It's okay." She whispered, more to herself than me.
Furthest away from us, in the back, was the really tall headstones. Probably taller than Peeta, and he's tall.
I squinted to read them. In the middle, the two tallest, Coin and Snow. I looked up at Katniss and her eyes were full of disgust. On the left were as many victors as they could find. All those who died in the quell, but those who died after the quell were closest. Meaning Finnick.
Annie must've noticed too, because she started crying, causing the baby to cry. The way she carried him everywhere, you would think it's an emotional support. Although maybe it is for her.
We started walking around, looking at the graves. I obviously went straight to 12, followed by Haymitch and Gale. Haymitch stopped, sat down, and stared blankly into a grave, which must have been an older one. I peeked over his shoulder, seeing the name Maysilee Donner. It's weird they have that here, but I started to notice a bunch of other tribute names from 12, from years and years ago.
Gale tapped on my shoulder and I turned to look at what he was looking at. I felt a lump form in my throat and tears threaten to spill. Gale slipped a lily out of his pocket and handed it to me. I knelt down and laid it gently on my moms grave. I stood up, and buried my face into Gale. When I was younger, Katniss told me that Gale was to take care of mom and I while she was in the games. How the tables have turned.
I stuck with Gale for the rest of the time, because Katniss and Peeta were walking around together and stopped at many graves, including moms, Peeta's family, the Undersee graves, some of Peeta's school friends, and majority of the victors. We met up again when I followed Gale to the army graves, specifically Squad 451.
The sun finally started to set, Paylor wanted to get a shot of the victors infront of Snow and Coin's graves, then all of us infront of the entire grave.
We then went to dinner. Gale asked why I wasn't eating, but I ignored him. When Katniss was in the games he went through some trouble to keep me eating. I don't want to tell him that I just don't.
After dinner we returned to our rooms. I stayed up and talked lightly to Johanna for a bit. Then I went to bed. And we waking up in the morning was mostly just to eat breakfast and return to the train.
