We Change. We Wait

"So is he just not going to put Nate in?" Mikey asks as everyone watches it game.

"Well there's only ten seconds left. That Devon guy is getting it." Jack states from his seat beside Tom.

"That guy isn't being a team player at all." Keithy adds shaking his head.

"Boo! Number 23 is a loser! But my uncle in!" Kayson screams as Killian tried not to laugh.

"Yeah put Uncle Nate in!" Merida backs up from her spot on Kams knee.

"Aaannnd they lost." I let my head drop.

we all wait with Haley and Jaime for Nathan to come out.

"Well, this is the first five-game losing streak of my career. I think I like winning better." Nathan sighs as he kisses Haley.

"You didn't lose, daddy. Those losers did!" Jamie exclaims.

"Yeah you would've whooped butt!" The twins stated together.

"Somebody's a little fired up."

"Yeah. You should have seen them 20 minutes ago."Haley giggles  patting her sons shoulders.

"You know what, Jamie? I wear that uniform just like they do, so doesn't matter if I'm playing or not, it's still my team. We win as a team, and we lose as a team. Remember that, okay?"

"Okay."

"we all better hit the hay." Kameron announced as Merida snuggled into him.

"Skills my man." I smile into the phone.

"Ah snowflake how's it going?"

"snowflake?"

"cause you're pasty as hell."

"haha how are you doing dumbass?"

"I'm fine. Missing y'all though. It's like I don't see you guys anymore."

"you are a busy man S. How's the team anyways?"

"winning. I miss the kids."

"I'll come drop them off with you this weekend if you want."

"I do. I do want."

"Great cause I'm going to try and get laid."

"eh not going to happen. You say that all the time and go home alone."

"Shut up."

Haley and I were in her room talking when we heard a knock downstairs, she went to answer it with me following behind her.

"I'm coming!"

We made it half way down the stairs before we saw Luke on one knee, "Haley, will you marry me?" His hands opened wide.

"That is so creepy on so many levels." Haley laughs as I nodded along.

" Yeah, well, that's how that, uh, crazy director in L.A. wanted to end the movie."

"Ew really?" I wrinkle my nose.

"Yeah. Do you think Peyton will like it?"

I looked over Haley's shoulder at the ring.

"oh that's gorgeous." I breathed.

"Oh woah ... I don't know, Luke. Girls usually hate getting big diamonds. I think she'll love it. It's just, I ... I always pictured you giving her Keith's ring. It meant so much to you."

"The truth is, is I always hoped she'd wear that ring, too. But I would've had to talk to you Blake. I know you loved that ring."

Lucas looked at me.

"He'd have wanted you to have Luke. I know he would have."

"I want one of those." Lucas announces as he came in to clothes/bros.

"Well, I will make you one, but you are just gonna have to wait."Brooke admonished as I wheeled the letterman jackets away.

"She didn't even make me one." I frown.

"Julian didn't have to wait."

My draw drops as Brooke rounded on Luke, "Is that what he told you ... that I didn't make him wait?"

" No, I came to the conclusion when he showed me his new jacket."

I snorted as both of them sent me a look.

I preoccupied myself with trying on some jackets as the two spoke.

"Right."

"Brooke, are you and Julian ..." Luke began.

" No, not at all. Okay, up until today, we were "having fun ..." his words, not mine ... but it ended before it started. He didn't tell you?" My friend flustered slightly.

"No. Since I don't really like Julian, we try to keep our conversations strictly about the movie."

"Right. How is that going?" I asked, already knowing since I saw him at Nate and Haleys.

"Oh, well, the director I met today wanted to make Lucas a gang member, Make Blake a mother of five, and have them living in a junkyard. Yeah."

"Sounds gritty?"

"you have twins in high school and everyone thinks you are a slut." I huffed.

"Oh, but he did want to put Brooke in a Mansion in Charlotte."

"Now, that is a movie I would go see, Blake and her five kids can live with me... Luke ... you don't have to compromise, not if you don't want to. The worst thing that could happen is for this movie to fail because they went with someone else's vision."

"What do I do, Guys?"

"Do whatever it takes." Brooke states.

"Just make sure they tell the story the way you remember." I admonished  patting his arm, "Brooks I'm keeping this."

"oh my god Nates in!" I yell as my brother walked onto the court.

"Go Nathan!" Mike yells.

It was just Mikey, the twins, Haley, killian, Jamie and I tonight.

"Mama they won! Uncle Nathan made them win" Kayson shouts as she hugs Killian.

"I know baby."

I stood by Nathan as Dan walked away from him, "it's okay to forgive him Nate."

"Yeah."

"Come on. I know three kids who wanna give you congratulations hugs."
