CHAPTER SIXTEEN, the heights
( hell )

It was a popular feeling of disappointment when everyone woke up that morning. The summer was over and school was beginning. Gina always found herself not wanting to get out of bed but on the first day of school, she downright refused. She pulled her duvet over her head and shut out her brother's yells.

It had been a tradition that Daniel had started when the girl was younger. Gina refused to get out of bed until her Dad came and carried her downstairs but Dan had taken it into his own hands. Opening the girl's bedroom door, he would turn the light on, open her curtains and go on a long rant about the most boring things he could imagine. That always seemed to drag her out of bed.

And since Dan had been gone for two years, he had missed two first days of school. It had been a relief to Gina when he had but now he was back... she had to endure the pain of Dan's rambles once again.

A groan left Gina's lips as she threw her duvet off of her head. Dan sat on the edge of Gina's bed and her Dad stood in the doorway, a cup of coffee held up to his smirking lips.

"Just shut up!" Gina hissed, shutting her eyes. The light immediately burned her brown eyes. A laugh fell from Dan's lips.

"Not until you get up," he told her before he continued his story about how he arrested a seventy-year-old man for prostitution. "So when he-"

"Fine!" Gina yelled. She jumped out of her bed and was quick to push Daniel out of her room. "I'm getting dressed." The girl slammed the door behind her laughing brother as she heard Callum and Dan high-five. She rolled her eyes and picked up the outfit she had laid out the day before.

Gina's typical first-day outfit included a dress of some kind with a cardigan and some boots. Today was no different. Gina had picked an Elizabeth and James Priscilla dress that was a mix of sky blue and off-white. It ended around her lower thighs and the frills rose slightly in the front. She paired the dress with a pair of black flats, that she had stolen from Marissa, and a pair of earrings Summer had brought her.

With her hair brushed and her makeup done, Gina reluctantly walked downstairs.

"There she is!" Callum yelled as Gina walked through the kitchen doors. The smell of pancakes hit her nose. "My beautiful daughter!"

"They as good as last time?" Gina asked, pointing at the stack in front of Dan. Callum nodded as he picked up a spatula and placed three onto a separate plate. He handed them to Gina.

"I would say better," Callum spoke.

"Really?" Gina spoke with sarcasm in her voice. She hadn't meant to but she had. She just wanted to turn back around and jump into her bed but instead, she had to go to school which Daniel was not going to let her forget about.
