CHAPTER ELEVEN, the girlfriend
(  Ice cream )

"I'm sorry?" Gina laughed as she looked at the brunette in front of her. She leant on the desk, her hands holding onto a photo. She had started up another shift at her dad's flower shop but the day was slow so Gina had found herself gossiping with Stephanie May.

"I know," Stephanie nodded, her own laugh falling from her lips as she looked up at the girl.

"That's ridiculous."

Stephanie May was around Gina's brother's age. She was a student in the nearby college, studying business and working part-time at Gina's father's flower shop for a small income on the side. She was a nice girl, one who worked hard and held a strong respect for everyone she spoke to. Gina liked her a lot. She liked the way she spoke, the way she dressed and the way she held herself.

Stephanie found that her way of expressing herself was through clothes - bright, colourful and- well she liked to make a statement. According to her, fringe was her best friend. And it was obvious, she wore fringe jackets on a daily basis and experimented with her makeup. Gina loved how confident the girl was, and how she could walk into a room and capture everyone's attention.

"That's what I said," Stephanie smiled and took the photo away from Gina. She placed it on her desk, pushing it under the more important documents. Gina intertwined her hands when she watched Stephanie's eyes flicker in excitement. "Oh did you see that with The Valley?"

"No," Gina shook her head. "I haven't watched the show." She pointed at the brunette in front of her. "But my friend is obsessed with that show, maybe you two should chat."

"I would love to-" Stephanie started but quickly got interrupted by the phone ringing. She lifted her finger as she rolled her eyes, annoyed at the interruption. She nodded and took a step back from the desk.

"Hello, this is Stephanie speaking. How may I be of service?" Stephanie greeted over the phone as Gina's eyes glanced over to the large window that pointed at the street. Her brother walked his hands in his pockets. Gina's forehead crinkled as she frowned. His eyes met hers and he walked across the street.

"Danny? Aren't you supposed to be at work?" she asked, stepping outside of the shop to meet him halfway. He nodded.

"Yeah, I took a day off," he explained.

"Why?" she questioned, looking over his face for any indication of hurt. He smiled when he noticed what she was doing. Danny placed a hand on his sister's shoulder.

"I'm fine," he spoke. She nodded, slowly. "Just tired. Thought I'd take the day off to catch up on some sleep but that didn't go well. Thought I'd go on a walk." Gina nodded, again, her eyes still examining his face. Bags sat under his eyes.
