CHAPTER TWENTY TWO, the countdown
( new years kiss )

Anxiety was a feeling Gina knew all too well

She had gone to therapy countless times and put on many sets of medication to help her deal with the physical sensations and the overwhelming feeling of drowning in her own thoughts. But yet nothing changed. Her whole life she was cursed with stomach aches and vomiting when she had to do things people did in their everyday life. It was hard and unfair.

Escaping with thoughts of the worst possible scenarios from basic activities, Gina took a deep breath. Christmas had passed and James had yet to reach out to Gina. Despite the messages and the phone calls she sent to the boy, there was still no response.

The Christmas party was a party Gina was still a little hazy on. She didn't know what events actually played out after she met Charlotte Stirling for the first time. She just remembered drinking and flashes of red. Gina knew she had been jealous of the girl and given James' lack of texts, she was scared of the way she reacted.

In the time that had past, Gina had been listing to the voicemail James had sent her that night. Apparently, Seth had told him to explain his thoughts about the whole 'incident' over the phone so she would understand the next day when her thoughts were coherent.

No matter how many times Gina replayed the message she did not seem to understand the way Seth thought.

Gina, I don't know what happened tonight but you were drunk. Too drunk. That seems to be a thing at these parties you attend and I don't really like where it is going.

Why you decided to get drunk and proceed to tell me that I don't want to be around you or that you don't like Charlotte? I don't know. But it was an overreaction.

I hope you don't have too much of a hangover tomorrow morning but I do wish that you would have allowed me to take you home instead of Seth because I am your boyfriend, even if you forget that sometimes.

Me, James, is your boyfriend.

Gina sighed. Her eyes scanned the Cohen's entranceway. The Christmas decorations had yet to be taken down from the party. Gina had requested a morning at the Cohen's before her dad went off on a trip to see his parents for New Year's and now she stood, alone and riddled with anxiety.

She pulled her phone from her ear and found James' contact. She called him and like the other hundred times she called him, he did not pick up. Gina found no reason to leave a voicemail. She had already filled up his mailbox.
