Lesley Blue POV
"Lesley!" The noise of Sean's voice made me feel warm and cozy inside, because even though he's old and physically challenged, he's still the same old happy Dad he used to be. So not everything has changed.
He was in his rocking chair in the corner, wearing his large slippers, crossing his legs. "I didn't know that you'd get out of work today!"
"I didn't. They just gave me an hour break. Since it's Wednesday, I decided to go orange shopping now while the kids are in school. I know it's sopposed to rain later, so I would rather not torture them."
"Ah, Lesley, you've always been so thoughtful. Now, how's work?"
I sit down next to him, "Oh, it's fine, just really busy. I have to tell people what to do all day, and I don't love it, but it makes good money."
"Do people listen to you?"
"Of course."
He smiles, making his eye wrinkles so much more visible. "Yeah, you better keep your workers on their toes!"
"Who just said my name?" I hear Sararose yell from the kitchen.
"Mother! I got you oranges!" I call to her.
Sararose comes out of the kitchen slowly. Recently she's gotten very skinny. She's been eating less because she doesn't want to get sick while she's old and has cancer. She used to be on the curvy side, and we all knew how much she likes to eat. She's now been wearing her oxygen tube through her nose and wears a knit cap so her head doesn't get cold, because she's still getting used to not having any hair.
She might have it worse than Sean. Sean had a stroke almost two years ago now, his hair grew back, but he can't walk very well and his fingers bearly work, especially on his right hand. He's also in the one third of stroke victims with memory issues, which I try not to get annoyed with because none if it is his fault.
"Is it Wednesday already?" Sararose gasps.
Sararose has two food shopping rules that I can think of, orange shopping is for Wednesdays, and that you can't spend more than $115 in one day. For some reason, I still follow these rules, even though I'm in control of my own life. I soppose that part of me still feels like good little Lesley from my childhood who could do no wrong.
Sararose turns on the T.V and then goes to sit back down on the sofa.
I have about ten minutes before I should go, so I peel myself an orange, and peel Sean an orange because he can't do that himself.
So I'm in the kitchen to do that, and I can faintly hear the T.V in the living room.
"There was been a murder on Tuesday, April 8th inside of Salt Lake City Utah." Says the man on the news.
Oh, Salt Lake. That's where my brother lives.
"A thirty-nine year old taxi driver by the name of Leo Blue has been charged for murder after he supposedly murdered his own customer in the back seat of the car in a parking garage."
I dropped the orange on the floor. "Sh*t!" I accidentally swore, because of the orange, not because of Leo, but oh my God, I sure hope that I heard that wrong.
"Lesley!" Yells Sararose.
"Tell me I heard that wrong!" I say as I come back into the room. My own brother being mentioned on the news. My own brother who I grew up dealing with for years. My own brother who seemed like the most fun and relaxed person...... actually murdered someone?
And the man on the news continues to talk, "Leo Blue was arrested last night, serving the next twenty years in prison."
"Twenty years?! I won't even be living anymore at that point!" Yells Sean in bewilderment.
"I think there must be some misunderstanding!" I exclaim, "Leo couldn't have killed someone, that makes no sense? Why would he kill someone in his own car?"
The man on the news continues, "The victim, a twenty year old man was founded to have been poisoned by a drink that must've been mixed with some sort of toxic cleaning product. Why did Leo Blue kill this man? We will never know. Untill next time folks!"
"What!?" Hollared Sararose, "That's it? That's all the information that we're given?"
"It can't be true! I mean, Leo's so happy and wholesome, there's no way he murdered someone!" Yells out Sean.
"Well, what's done is done. They seem pretty certain that Leo's the murderer." Sararose sighs as she sits back in her chair.
