My alarm went off at 6:30am. I had gotten used to not hearing that sound and it reminded me that life was going back to normal now.
I dragged myself out of bed and put on some baggy jeans and a cropped black short sleeve shirt. The shirt did show a bruise or two but I didn't care. It was cute and I was going to wear it.
I went to the bathroom to wash my face and do some skincare. I decided to do my makeup after I ate so I went downstairs and grabbed a blueberry muffin we had.
I ate while watching Paisley run around with a toy in her mouth. I smiled at how adorable she looked.
When I finished the muffin, I played with her until AJ ran down the stairs yelling for breakfast.
"AJ keep your voice down." I told him getting up from the floor. His eyes went to the light purple spot on my stomach. "It's nothing. I'm ok."
"Does it hurt?" He asked me looking up with sad eyes.
"Not really. Only when I push on it." I shook my head.
He gave me a big hug being careful to not put pressure there. "I missed you."
"I missed you too bud." I hugged him back.
Paisley jumped on my leg wanting to join the hug. I picked her up and let AJ give her a hug and kiss.
"Ok I have to go do my makeup. Don't be late to the bus." I ruffled his hair and hurried up the stairs into the bathroom.
I did my makeup and checked my phone to see that I should be at Max's house now.
I ran downstairs with my backpack and quickly filled up my water bottle. "You're late." My mom reminded me.
"Thank you." I huffed sarcastically walking to the front door.
"Hey Bailey!" My mom warned me. "Good luck today." Her face softened.
I gave a small smile and walked out the door and down to Max's house. He was walking outside when I arrived.
"Hey there." I smiled giving him a big hug.
"Hey are you doing ok?" He asked.
"I'm nervous but we have to go back at some point right?" I laughed nervously.
"Right." He agreed.
Cody's truck came barreling up the street with the windows all down blasting music.
"Get in guys!" Lexi called from the passenger seat.
Max and I smiled before getting in. No more me sitting in the middle seat.
The car felt empty without Joey's presence. I told myself these last few days that he was just out of town and that he would come back but now, he really feels gone.
Cody began driving to school as I looked outside. The wind was getting all up in my hair but I didn't care.
"Bailey!" Lexi squealed excitedly as one of the songs we used to listen to all the time came on. "I know you know the words!"
We both began singing along and laughing while Max and Cody sat there confused.
We arrived at school shortly after so Cody kicked us out. At least some things never change. We went to go and find Bennett.
We found him hanging around a few friends so I snuck up on him and he jumped but calmed down when he saw me.
"Hi." I smiled kissing him.
"Shit you scared me." He smiled down at me. "Hey Max. Hey Lexi."
"Hey Bennett." Lexi smiled.
"Hey man." Max put his arm around Lexi mimicking what Bennett did to me.
