Behind the Sclaes of Jurassic World: Reign Part 1: The Story

My most recent story, Jurassic World: Reign has ended. And as I promised, I would talk about the development of this story. But I will split it into two parts. This chapter revolves around mainly the story, and the next one will revolve around the characters.

Now, lemme rewind back, far back before I even started writing. When I was a kid in 2017, I already wanted to write a Jurassic World story that took place off of the islands and on the mainland. That story was imply titled "Jurassic World 2". In which Rexy, the main Tyrannosaurus of Isla Nublar, would be captured, and taken to San Diego to be displayed in a new park named "Jurassic World San Diego".

Note: Ironically, during the days when I started to get better at writing, I actually joined a roleplay also called Jurassic World San Diego. Me and some of my friends even had a wiki for it. Although at this point, it's pretty much defunct since we all grew out of it.

Jurassic World 2 was a very simple plot. Rexy would escape San Diego along with the rest of the dinosaurs in said park, one of which just happened to be the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park III.

As the story went on, the main characters would try to round up the dinosaurs to get them back into the park, but one particular dinosaur was becoming more of a problem. That being the Spinosaurus, who was causing lots of mayhem all around the streets of San Diego.

Eventually, they would resort to luring Rexy to the Spinosaurus so she could kill it. The Indominus Rex, who was resurrected in this story, also joined in on the fight. They fought in the middle of the city, and as if this story wasn't crazy enough, a building fell on them. But only killed the Spinosaurus.

Yeah, this was made at a time when I hated Spinosaurus. Ironic since it's now my second favorite dinosaur next to Tyrannosaurus, with Giganotosaurus being the third.

I am not proud of this story. I mean, I was like 12 when I thought of this. But some concepts would make their way into the Terryverse, which is the name of my Jurassic World universe.

Though I've been referring to Rexy as female, she was indeed male in this story. Which would lead into the creation of Terry who is the main Tyrannosaurus in my universe. Another thing brought over was the return of the Spinosaurus from JPIII, with Smaug the Spinosaurus being a chaotic neutral character in my universe who doesn't really ally himself with anyone unless it's convenient. And the idea of resurrecting the Indominus also came from this story.

Along with that, Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm were actually in this story. So I guess I predicted Jurassic World Dominion five years before it released. And also, if I did make this story, I would turn it into a series. If you're wondering what the series would be, it would pretty much be a Monster of the Week kind of thing where Terry would fight off different creatures all the time. And in late 2017 or some time in 2018, I thought of adding another kind of dinosaur into this story.

That being, the Indoraptor. If you're wondering how the Indoraptor would be able to be in this story even though Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom wasn't out yet, there were many leaks floating around for a while about something called the "Indoraptor" which would appear in the next Jurassic World movie. Which would be true, but back then, we didn't know what it looked like.

The Indoraptor in the Jurassic World 2 series would've simply been a white Velociraptor with spikes. Try to imagine Fang from my universe, but he has the color scheme of the Indominus Rex and that's basically what you'll get. The Indoraptor's name was also very different compared to what it is now. Back then, he was simply named "Indo" but when I wrote Ripper's Journey, I renamed him to the more popular fan name of "Ripper".

But there was something about Indo that was kept for Ripper's character. He had a sort of relationship with Blue the Velociraptor. Which of course would lead to the birth of Fang in the Terryverse.
