trivia on dinosaur train evolution: Shiny and Gilbert's relationship

If you've read dinosaur train evolution which you probably have i mean if you didn't why are you reading this anyway?

Okay enough jokes lets get serious

If you have read it (which at this point you certainly have) you would notice that shiny pteranodon and gilbert troodon have a relationship and i will tell you the changes i did to make the relationship a reality

In the middle of 2019 i was excited since dinosaur train season 5 was coming out and i already marked my calendar for the release on august 26

And i started researching characters cause at that point i had read fanfictions about dinosaur train so i wanted to know more about the characters in case if i ever made a fanfic of my own which i did

When i researched one of my favorite characters that being shiny of course it was what i expected she was very stylish and proud of her shiny exterior but there was one thing that really surprised me

Shiny had a crush on gilbert

When i watched the show i noticed when gilbert was around shiny would stay close to him and laugh when he made jokes i started to question why she was doing this until i found out that she had a crush on him

When i found out about it i was like

"wait wait wait so you're telling me a pteranodon has a crush on a troodon? Are you freaking kidding me?!"

I didn't accept it at first since they were different species but the more i read fanfictions the more i started to grow an appreciation about their relationship

Later on i started searching the amazing world of the internet if people liked this ship and they certainly did well most of them there were still ones who say its impossible cause they are different but i digress

I liked their relationship because of the possibilities of potential stories about their relationship

And then december came along and i finally came across wattpad and i jumped at the chance cause as i said before i wanted to make my dream a reality and a month into writing it i kept reading other fanfictions to get inspiration from them

Most of the inspiration i got was very small really

But there was still a question that lingered in my mind

Shiny and Gilbert

Should i do it? Or should i just abandon it?

At first when i made this series i nearly didn't put gilbert in it cause i was thinking so much of buddy that i actually forgot a bit about gilbert until i looked at the character list again and then i remembered so after making chapter 5: king of the sea i started thinking on how to introduce gilbert and how to get him in a relationship with shiny

At first i thought that he would be on the train with his uncle and shiny would blush at him but hide it

The second option was gilbert visited them but that would have been a bit too unoriginal cause when you meet an old friend they just go to your home and meet you there and i didn't want that

The third option and the option i ended up using was he would temporarily be the conductor cause his uncle was given a break

Although the hardest part about introducing gilbert was not his character personality cause his was easy for me but what he looked like

Of course he would look like a normal troodon but originally he wouldn't have had the upright stance the troodons in this show had instead he would have had a stance that was similar to valerie velociraptor's stance but i wanted to keep the troodons the same

At first i didn't want him to look different from the others he would just look like a teen version of his younger self no jacket but he has a red hat but as you can tell in the actual story he's different

He now wears a dark blue jacket with long sleeves and his feathers are different he even has a longer feather on his head that sticks out from the rest i did this so i can keep his head feathers unique cause nearly every troodon in the actual show had different head feathers so i decided to give gilbert his own head feather design

Now about their relationship

When shiny revealed to gilbert she liked him originally i wanted it to take a different turn here was the original version

Dinosaur train evolution chapter 6 (concept version)

"i liked you!" shiny said

"y-you do?" gilbert asked

"yes! I liked you ever since we first met you were so smart and kind and i know i would never find a pteranodon boy like that cause most of them are jerks so please dont leave me gilbert please!" shiny said tears rolling down her cheeks

Gilbert had a confused look but then he had a nearly angry face

"look shiny i know you like me but it wont work" gilbert said with a bit of anger in his voice

"w-what?" shiny asked

"dont you understand? We are different species it doesn't matter how much you like me if we're not the same then we dont need to be together" gilbert said walking away but shiny stopped him

"and what will you do? Let me be looked down upon by others? Gilbert please!" shiny pleaded

"for the last time" gilbert said removing shiny's hand "i say no!" gilbert then ran away leaving shiny alone as shiny fell to her knees and sobbed

THE END

As you can see gilbert here thinks that it is impossible because they are different and i hated this gilbert cause gilbert was more polite and considerate than this so i changed it

And also shiny felt so desperate here so much so that she didn't want gilbert to leave

I didn't like this scene for a lot of reasons cause of how cruel gilbert felt here he just left her there to cry he didn't care if he hurt her feelings he just wanted to get away from her

Later on in the story buddy would soon tell this to everyone and they started to hate gilbert for it and then came along winter

As i said winter was intended to be a villain originally and here gilbert was basically depressed not only does his friends hate him but he lost his chance at a relationship with a girl who cared about him and now winter is basically tormenting gilbert and later on buddy did agree to get rid of winter but he still didn't forgive gilbert

And no gilbert in this version never got to apologise to shiny cause shiny hated him more than anybody else she hated him more than valkyrie and thats really something cause valkyrie is a murderer

Later on i decided to scrap this scene and rewrite it and i altered one of gilbert's lines the one where he said they will never be together

In the actual story i altered it to gilbert saying that it doesn't matter what species shiny was as long as he loved her it never mattered to him if she was different and thats why i wanted to change it cause i wanted to make it clear that even though you're different there are still those who will love you

And in the story their relationship is casual but originally it was supposed to be the "lovey dovey" kinda relationship where they would talk about how they like each other so much and i just thought this was cringe so i scrapped it

In the actual story when they talk to each other they still act like they're friends but they act differently sometimes when they're alone cause they can express their feelings for each other

In the end shiny did get what she wanted and even gilbert was happy

And also i like calling this ship "GilShine" since nobody has thought of a shipping name for it
