-Summer of 2013-
"Why do you have to leave me alone the entire summer D-Derek?" Kenny asks, pouting at me as I pack my bags into the trunk of our van.
"If I had it my way I'd stay here with you and defile the neighborhood. I'm being forced and you know that." I say. Turning towards him with a raised eyebrow. He only sighs loudly, crossing his arms over his chest. He still hasn't changed from his paint splattered clothes, making me just chuckle and shake my head at him.
"I-I don't know what t-to do without you." He whispers, looking down with a blush. I walk over to him and bring his smaller frame into my arms.
"It's okay Kenny, you can still stay at my house if things get too bad okay? I'll have my phone on me, so call if your bored or something happened okay?" I whisper. Squeezing him against me as he nods.
"O-okay." He whispers. Pulling away from me and tugging at the shoulders of his shirt.
"Derek, we're leaving in five!" My dad calls from the garage. I just sigh and look towards the neighborhood.
My parents have business meetings lined up all summer in Florida, they thought that it was the perfect chance for a vacation. Even though my sister isn't coming and it's just us three. Meaning that I'll probably be sitting alone in the hotel room for the duration of the vacation.
"Bye Derek." Kenny whispers, ducking into my chest again before waving. Getting on his bike and heading back towards his house. I knew that it pained him to be alone, especially when his parents are home.
"Okay, we have an hour to get to the airport so hop in." My mom says anxiously. Shoeing me Into the van. I jump in and take my phone out, plugging in headphones, zoning out.
-----
We arrive in Florida late, by that time I have a hard time keeping my body up from exhaustion. The Florida air much different than our small town. It's muggy and makes my clothes stick to my body.
My parents have been droning on about how the hotel is located near a small Boardwalk, apparently prime location. I just nodded my head and pretended to be interested.
"Promise us that we won't have to worry about you dying of laziness?" My mother says as we stand outside of my separate room. Theirs is located on a different floor, I like my privacy.
"I can't do that momma. You know that Netflix forbids me from getting out of bed." I joke. I hug them goodbye. They'll be working all day tomorrow so I'll only see them at dinner.
I enter my room and automatically get a cold shower running. Stripping off my sweaty clothes I sigh in relief as my body is cooled down. Luckily the room has air conditioning, I don't know what I'd do if there wasn't. Probably streak the entire time. After staying under the spray of water for way too long I get out and wrap a towel around my waist. I exit the washroom and enter the sleeping portion of the room.
I'm not gonna lie, my parents jobs really hooked us up. The main thing is, is the full internet access. Not only would that allow my addiction of white collar to be satisfied, because I need my daily fix of Matt Bomer. Plus, I could search up as much gay porn as my heart desires.
I drop onto my bed, not bothering to get dressed. Pulling out my phone I scroll through my messages. Kendall hasn't messaged me yet so I'm assuming that all is well so far. I turn over and stare at the ceiling. My parents are right, I can't stay in all day. It's against my nature. I turn off all the lights and snuggle into bed. Falling asleep.
-----
The next day I wake up to the sound seagulls outside my window, annoying me endlessly. I need at least eight hours of sleep, that was barely five. I kick off the blankets, contemplating what to do for the day. The receptionist of the hotel was talking about a good breakfast dinner located on the boardwalk so I might as well check it out to soothe my grumbling stomach.
After getting dressed in khaki shorts and a tank top with power bottom written by my ass I walk out of the room. I enter the elevator and nod at the older couple that's inside.
Once outside of the hotel I make my way towards where the lady said the boardwalk was located. Already enjoying the feeling of the sun on my skin. I make my way past quint stores. Mostly having to do with bathing suits and other touristy types of shops. I seeing the beach ahead I smile to myself. There isn't a beach where I'm from so it's a nice change of scenery. I finally see the sign of the dinner up ahead. People are constantly entering and leaving, so I'm taking that it's one of the go to spots here.
I slip into the diner and sigh as the air conditioner blasts me in the face. Cooling me off instantly. I slip off my sunglasses and look over the establishment. Finding only a few booths to not be occupied. A teenage boy walks towards me, wearing a work uniform.
"Hi there, for one today?" He asks, his tone filled with boredom.
"Yeah." I say, following him as he heads off to the opposite side of the room.
"Kyle will be over in just a moment to take your order. Enjoy." He mutters, tossing the menu onto the table and walking away. I chuckle and shake my head, I swear some people.
I flip through the menu, deciding on blueberry pancakes and eggs.
"Hi there, I'm Kyle. I'll be your waiter today, do you already know what your having?" Kyle asks. An older women asks. Taking out a notepad for her apron.
"Hi! I'll have your blueberry pancakes and two eggs over easy please. Could I have apple juice with that?" I ask. Smiling at her brightly.
"Of course sweetly. I'll take your menu and I'll be right back with your drink." She says, her eyes wrinkling up with her wide grin.
"Thank you." I say, she just nods and takes my menu off the table. Walking off. I take out my phone and select Kendall's contact.
"It's too sunny here, you'd hate it." I typed. Receiving a quick response.
"Ew, you know how I burn" I laugh as I remember last summer where he burnt so bad he had a hard time just breathing. I'm not gonna lie, it was partly my fault for forgetting to pack sunscreen.
"Plus there's a lot of people here."
"That's even worse. It's better then putting up with my parents though."
"I know."
"See any hot guys ;)?" He asks, trying to change the subject again.
"No, not yet. Sadly."
"Oh well that sucks, I gotta go. My parents want me to go to the store for them :(" he types. We quickly say goodbye just as Kyle places my drink in front of me.
"Are you here in holiday? I haven't seen your face around here before." She asks. Smiling at me warmly.
"Ugh, yeah. My parents are here on business so they decided to drag me along." I say, returning her smile.
"Well, there tons to do here. Especially for a young man like yourself." She says.
"I'm hoping so." I say with a smile. She nods and walks off when she notices more customers being seated.
I look out the window, watching the waves hit the beach softly. Kids building sand castles, and young adults sun bathing. I could see the appeal of moving here. It's calming.
After eating breakfast I say bye to Kyle, making sure to tip her well, I make my way to the boardwalk.
I spot an empty bench that looks onto the beach. I sit down with a sigh, dropping my head back and absorbing the sun.
I feel the bench dip in as somebody sits beside me. I look over to find the most attractive man that is ever seen in person sitting beside me. Mirroring my actions.
"Nothing beats this feeling." The man says, turning his head slightly and smiling at me. The man appears to be slightly older than me. In his early twenties. He has dark hair that sits underneath a baseball cap. His skin is tanned, and he has slight stubble.
"Yeah it feels amazing." I say, returning to my previous position.
"I'm taking that this is your first time here?" He asks. I just nod my head, stretching out my long legs.
"I'm here for business. If you were wondering." He jokes, his tone light.
"Nah, I wasn't. What do you do?" I ask. Enjoying the company. I'm a social person, I can't go a day with no interactions. I'd go crazy.
"I do a bit of everything really. Right now I'm here for real estate." He says.
"You're a mobster aren't you?" I joke, laughing as he chuckles.
"Ahah, you got me. I'm really here to dump bodies." He jokes. I laugh so hard that I end up grabbing my sides. The way he said it made it seem like he was serious but the slight upturn of his lips gave him away.
"So what are you going to do during your stay here?" He asks after we've both calmed down. I sigh and look towards the beach. Watching people scream as the waves reach them.
"I honestly don't know. I'm here for the entire summer..." I say. Biting my lip in contemplation.
"I could show you around? I know the place pretty well. There's a few hidden spots that I think you'd enjoy." He says, his tone slightly hopeful.
"That'd be cool." I say, smiling towards him.
"Okay, meet me here every day at 12, and I'll show you around." He says. Standing up with a groan.
"Okay, I'll see you then." I say, watching as he waves bye and walks in the direction of the condos. I'm not gonna lie and say that I didn't stare at his ass as he walked away.
