Kicking the tire of my truck I pull at my hair in frustration. For the past week it's been on the fritz. Sometimes it would start, others it would stall. I'm honestly pissed off, right now o don't have the money to take it to the shop. Sighing, I stick my hands into my pockets and start walking to the nearest bus station. I'll just have to leave it in the parking lot of work over night. Halfway to the bus top a car pulls up beside me. I turn my head to look over and see Darren's car. Relief floods my system. Good I won't be being kidnapped today. His tinted windows roll down to reveal his charming smile that made me feel like I was punched by Rocky.
"Hey there boardwalk man." I greet, walking over and leaning into the car. He chuckles and turns the radio down.
"Fancy seeing you here, Florida is a long ways away." He jokes playing around. I look at him like he's crazy.
"I must have taken a wrong turn. I swear I was just at the beach..." I muse. Winking at him.
"Jump in babe." He says, so casually even though my heart nearly stops at the nickname.
"Fine, take me to Kyle's." I say. He looks at me questionably. I gasp in horror.
"Are you telling me that you never went to the diner on the boardwalk?" I ask, surprised since he was the one who wanted to give me the tour.
"Uh, no." He says, confusion filling his voice.
"You missed out. I went there everyday. Kyle was my waitress, the food was amazing and the view was beautiful." I say, smiling as I think back to the summer. I do miss Kyle and the food. Still, I never found out what was wrong with that host. He was always in such a bad mood.
"Next time we go, we'll stop by." He promises. He said we. We. There is a we. I fall back into my seat.
"Where are we going?" I ask, we're going in the opposite direction of my house.
"I'm taking you on a date." He says simply. Turning towards me as he smiles brightly. I smile back then look down at my clothes.
"Well, at least let me change." I say, running my hair through my hair nervously.
"You look handsome Derek. You'll never look anything but." He whispers, the tone of his voice causing to bite my lip to refrain myself from smiling like a complete fool. I don't respond and just turn towards the window. I feel his hands fall on my knee, his thumb rubbing soothing circles. If this man doesn't stop I'm going to melt. Seriously, I'm one step from turning into a puddle.
We pull up at the local skating rink, and I nearly jump in my seat in excitement. I've always wanted to go ice skated but living in a small town didn't allow it. I look towards Darren and he chuckles at the look on my face.
"Wait here for one second, I'll open the door for you." He says, undoing his seat belt and hoping out. Once he makes it to my side of the car he opens up the door. He bends over me, dragging his hand over my stomach I gasp loudly. Heat and shockwaves go through my system. His hands grab the clasp of the seatbelt and undoes it. His breath fanning on my face. I look up to find him smiling at me slightly, his eyes showing restrained lust and happiness. He pulls back, and steps away to allow me to get out of the car.
I get out, still slightly out of breath from Darren's close proximity. We walk towards the door, where Darren holds it open for me. Causing a blush to form on my face as well as a joking glare.
As soon as we enter the arena he grabs my hand and drags me over to the booth where you pay as well as rent skates. He quickly pays and gets the skates after asking for my foot size. We make our way over to the rink. We sit down on the bench. I look at the skates, I've never put them on before. Why does the laces need to be so difficult?
I hear Darren chuckle beside me, leaning over me he whispers into my ear.
"Having a hard time there babe?" He finishes with a light peck on the cheek. Pulling away he finishes lacing up his own skates. I look at him questionably, wondering how he did it so quickly. "I was on the local skating team until the end of university, now I coach when it's in season." He explains. I smile down at him as he bends down. Lacing up my skates with no problems. Once done he stands up. Holding his hand out for me to grab. Breathing in quickly, I stand up. Almost falling down from my lack of balance.
"Woah," I exclaim. Falling into Darren.
"I'm guessing you've never skated before?" He asks, raising his eyebrow at me.
" I've always wanted to, just wasn't a place to do it." I explain as he helps me walk... Well more like waddle over to the entrance of the ice rink. He gets on it first, then holds his hand out for my own. I hesitantly reaching out, knowing that it's without a doubt that I'll make a fool out of myself.
I Step down onto the ice and automatically start to slip. My arms drop his hands and grab onto his shoulders.
"Woah there." He says. Smiling at me jokingly. He pulls back, starting to skate backwards. His hands placed on my hips. He leads me forward. At first my grip on him is tight, but soon I start to get a handle on thing. I let go and he moves so he's skating beside me. He takes my hand in mine and I sigh.
"This is a lot of fun." I say, just after I fell. My but is numb from the coldness.
"Is that sarcasm?"Darren asks, helping me up carefully, worry in his eyes.
"No, I love it! Really, thank you for taking me." I say, smiling softly at him. We do a few more laps around the rink before I start to get tired. He helps me untie my laces and soon we are heading out back to his car.
"Do you need to get home?" He asks me as he deposits me into the car.
"No, you have me as long as you like." I say with a wink. He chuckles and shakes his head. He soon enters in the other side and peels out of the parking lot.
