After a few moments he pulls back and stares into my eyes. His gaze looking for any regret. I lick my lips, nervous from his analyzing. I know he'll only find self doubt and sadness.
The sad reality is that kissing him does nothing for me, apart from easing my thoughts, I know that we aren't meant to be like that.
"I'm sorry." I whisper. Dropping my head in shame.
"Hey, it's okay Derek. I shouldn't have kissed you. I know that you like another man." He says softly. Pushing back my hair. I press against his hand and close my eyes.
"You don't have to be here." I whisper. Opening my eyes and looking into his darker ones. He smiles and shakes his head.
"Yes I do. Someday I'll tell you my story " he promises. His mouth tugging down into a frown.
"Okay." I whisper. Turning away from him.
"Are you hungry?" He asks. Sitting up.
"Kind of." I answer. He nods his head.
"I'll have my assistant pick up some food and drop it off." He responds. Taking out his cell phone. He quickly types away on it the places it back into his pocket.
"Are you sure that your okay staying with me? It was rude of me to call you when you were at work." I sigh. Rubbing my face with my hands. Ashamed of my actions now that I'm feeling slightly better from my large crying fest.
"Yes I'm sure. Derek, I'll be here for you no matter what." He says, taking my hand in his and squeezing it.
"Okay." I sigh again. Pulling away so I could stand up. "Do you want something to drink?"
"I'll have a water, thank you." He stands up. Walking round my apartment, looking at the pictures that Kenny hung up again after my meltdown. I frown, remembering that moment. I walk into the kitchen. Opening the fridge and pulling out two waters. The home phone begins to ring so I pick it up without checking the caller id.
"Hey Derek. I'm just calling to tell you that Monroe and I won't be in tonight." He says. I hear multiple voices in the background. Including Monroe's brothers voice and Holden's. I smile, glad that Kenny has the family that he's always wanted.
"It's okay Kenny, go have fun. Say hi to everybody for me." I assure. He sighs, I could tell that he feels uneasy of the thought of leaving me alone.
"Your alone though." He whispered. I chuckle at his dejected tone.
"Actually, I'm not. Orion is here." I reply. He becomes silent for a moment.
"The one who you..," he says, I could just imagine the blush on his cheeks.
"Yes Kenny. We are just friends though, so don't worry." I assure hi,. He sighs again. I swear he is such a mother hen.
"Well okay." He hesitates.
"Kenny don't worry, I'm fine." I chuckle.
"Fine. I'll se you tomorrow Derek." He sighs again.
"Bye Kenny." We then hang up and I put the phone down.
I walk out of the kitchen to find him holding a photo of Kendall and I when we were just children. He looks over at me with a smile.
"Is this your roommate?" He asks, pointing to Kenny. Who in that photo is glaring at me as I hold a snake In front of him.
"Yeah, that's Kendall." I say, smiling at him.
"You guys were cute kids. More so him though, you look like a trouble maker." He jokes. Putting down the photo and moving to the next. I chuckle.
"Yeah, I was the shit disturber of the two. Still am." I say fondly.
"It's okay, so was I." He says. Picking up our graduation photo. He looks down at it with a smile.
"You look so happy." He comments. I walk beside him and take the photo from him.
"I was. I was getting away from Parker and all the reminders of what happened." I whisper. Putting the frame back on the wall. I pass him a water and we return to the couch. I pick up the remote and turn in the TV. A few minutes pass when there's a knock at the door.
"That should be my assistant. I'll get it." He says. Getting up and walking over to the door. He soon returns with a plastic bag full of food. "She didn't know what to get so she got a bunch of stuff." He explains. Setting the food on the coffee table.
"I'll get some plates" I tell him, walking to the kitchen. I also grab two beers then head back. I toss him the beer and he thanks me.
He pulls out different types of salads and other foods. From pasta to sandwiches.
"She really got everything." I admit. Putting the food onto my plate.
"Yeah she did, so tell me about yourself." He says, I realize that we don't really know much about each other.
"Um, well I want to be a writer. I have an olde sister who is pregnant. I used to play soccer on my school team" I say, not knowing what to tell him. He nods his head as he takes a bite of his food.
"That's awesome." He admits. "I went to school for business, now I won numerous companies and I came to Denver to see if there's places to expand." He explains.
"And is there?" I ask curiously.
"Yes there is. I'm going to build numerous office buildings and apartment buildings here." He explains. I nod. We spend the rest of the night getting to know each other and soon he has to leave, saying he has early meetings. After kissing my forehead he leaves the apartment.
