Stomping up the stairs I let out a large sigh. It seemed like that class lasted forever. The professor kept droning on an on about the Egyptians. Things I could have learnt purely from watching the history network. When he finally dismissed U.S. I could hear the classes collective sigh of relief.
Now that I'm home I could finally relax, well until Darren comes over anyways. I'm a nervous wreck, my palms are so sweaty that I had a hard time opening my front door. When I enter the apartment I chuckle when I find Kendall dancing around the room. Cleaning in the process.
He turns around startled when he hears the door slam shut over the loud music. His face breaks out into a smile and he jumps into my arms.
"Hey Kenny, why are you in such a good mood?" I ask as I pick him up off of the ground.
"I just can't be happy to see my best friend?" He jokes, pecking me on the cheek.
"Sure Kenny, tell me what's up." I sigh as I sit us both down on the couch. He climbs off of me and falls onto the seat next to mine.
"Well, I'm cleaning the apartment for your dad for tomorrow. You know, we haven't been taking good care of the apartment. It's so dusty. Anyways, I'm excited for that. I'm also nervous of your dad meeting Monroe, he's nervous too." He explains, slouching into the couch.
"My dad will love Monroe, don't worry." I soothe him.
"You're in a better mood today too, better than when you left anyways." Kendall says curiously. Head tilted to the side.
"I got a new book, bumped into Orion. Other than that my day has been uneventful." I say. Running my hand through my hair.
"You forgot the part about Darren coming over later today." Monroe startles me, walking out of the kitchen, food in hand.
"Hey Monroe." I greet, he nods at me with a smile. Handing the food over to Kendall. Who thanks him softly. Monroe then sits down on the ground beside Kenny. Looking to make sure that he's eating.
"When is Darren coming over?" Kenny asks. Taking a bite of his sandwich.
"After work." I reply. Taking my phone out of my bag to see if he texted. I sigh when I see that nobody has tried to contact me.
"Oh,okay." He hums, turning the tv on. We all laugh mindlessly at the comedy that's playing.
My phone ringing interrupts the movie. I apologize before answering the phone and entering my bedroom which is an absolute mess. Kenny was right.
"Hello?" I answer, the number showing up is unknown.
"Hey Derek." Darren's voice sounds through the phone. A smile pulls at my lips.
"Hi." I whisper. Falling back onto my bed.
"How are you?" He asks, the sound of rustling papers in the background.
"I'm good, tired from class." I respond.
"That's good, I'm just calling to let you know that I'm done work and that I'll be over over there in ten minutes. He informs. I nod my head, knowing that he wouldn't be able to see me doing it.
"Okay, see you then." I whisper.
"Bye Derek." He ends.
"Bye." I say before hanging up and tossing my phone to the side.
I sit up and look around the room. There is dirty clothes littering the floor. Empty bottles of water on my bedside table. My desk is also covered in papers from school. Not to mention the unpacked boxes that I never got to.
I stand up and start cleaning. Tossing the dirty clothes in the washing machine. I then make my bed and throw out the water bottles.
By the time that there's a knock at the door I've Already finished cleaning. Knowing how clean Darren is, he wouldn't have been pleased with me.
I hear Kenny answer the door before my own bedroom door swing open. Revealing a smiling Darren. I look behind him to find Monroe and Kendall thrusting in the air. I hold in my laughter as Darren closes the door.
"Hi." I greets him. He walks over and pulls me I to his arms. Kissing the top of my head. I close my eyes and lean into him.
"Hey baby." He whispers into my hair. "How was your day?"
"It was good. I stopped by and got another book. I ... Uh... Bumped into Orion and we grabbed coffee. Then I went to school." I respond. Wincing internally, thinking that I would anger him.
"Does he know that you are taken?" He asks tightly. His body tensing.
"Yes he does." I say, hoping that he trusts me.
"If he even looks at you in that way I will kill him." He promises darkly. I nod weakly against his shoulder. He pulls away from me and tugs me towards the bed.
"I missed you today. I'm not gonna lie, I was nervous about tonight. I'm now always wanting to be with you, so o could protect you." He admits lying back on the bed.
"I missed you too."I whisper.
"When you're ready you can start. Take your time baby." He says. Pulling me into him. I take a deep breath before starting.
"It was a couple months after we met. I was trying to get over you, at the time o was seeing both men and women. I was attending a party with my friends. That's when I met Parker. He was a college student. I thought he was good looking when we first talked. He said that he was trying to build up the courage to talk to me all night. I remember myself being shocked that a college student was actually interested in me. He asked for my number and I stupidly gave it to him. The next week we went on our first date. For the first couple of dates I thought that he was perfect, it was only when we became exclusive that he changed. He became demanding and possessive. He always wanted to be touching me, never wanted me to hang out with friends. I ignored it. One day he picked me up from school and asked if I wanted to go to his dorm. Saying that his roommates would be there. They weren't. As soon as we entered the room he attacked me. I've told him numerous times before that day that I wasn't ready for that. So he knew. I told him no, tried to fight him off of me but he overpowered me. I screamed for help, but nobody ever came. After he was finished I escaped and walked slowly to the corner store. Where I cleaned myself up and called for my parents to come pick me up. I never told them. I was afraid of the judgements, of them not believing me. After that I relied on sex to soothe my issues. Going from one person to the next. I moved to Escape. I didn't want to love like that anymore. When I came here I felt different. It was only when I checked the local news paper that it all caught up to me. Parker was charged with rape and murder but he got off because of lack of evidence. Then my mother called and went on about how he was innocent. It was all too much, I'm not making an excuse for why I slept with Orion. It was a lack of judgement. I went back to my old ways. Monroe made me a lawyers waypoint met when I told them that night. I want Parker to rot in jail, so he can't victimize anybody else." I finish. Tears streaming down my face. Darren is silent beside me, making me try to move away from him.
"Don't move away from me, please." His broken voice sounds. I look up to find his eyes clouded with tears. I could tell that he is trying to stay strong but judging by the way that his body is trembling it's not working.
"Okay." I whisper, nestling into his side.
"That wouldn't have happened if you haven't met me." He says guiltily. I shake my head quickly.
"Do not blame yourself for this." I demand.
"It's true though, if you wouldn't have been trying to get over me you would have never met Parker." He whispers.
"I don't and will never regret meeting you Darren." I whisper, sitting up on my elbow to show him how sincere I am about that statement.tears fall down his cheeks.
"I could have saved you." He whispers, his breathing labored.
"Darren, stop." I demand. Wiping away his tears. The sight of them tearing me apart.
"Just the thought of his hands on you, the struggle and pain that you went through makes me want to throw up." He says, trying to calm his breathing.
"Relax Darren." I soothe, combing my fingers through his hair.
"I'm the one who should be comforting you. He whimpers.
"You just being here with me comforts me." I whisper. He looks at me with sad eyes.
"I will protect you." He promises. Bringing my lips to his.
"I wouldn't want it any other way." I whisper against his lips.
