I always knew what's been expected of me and what my life should be like. I'm a Malfoy. A pureblood. A soon to be Slytherin. Unfortunately, for my father Lucius, he, and the rest of my family have seen me as a black sheep of the family. Someone less than. Someone that is not worthy of their full time and attention. I suppose, if I had to guess, it started when I met him. The boy who lived. He, Hermione, and Ron, changed my life and its course for the greater. They are my family. It didn't start as that for obvious reasons. But I think I'm getting ahead of myself. So, let's go back to the beginning. When I met him.——————
Diagon Alley 1991-
"Come now children. Keep up, will you? We have much to buy and... so little time." My mom, Narcissa tells us. Draco and I were caught in the middle of one of our infamous arguments on God knows what. It seems that as we keep getting older, we butt heads more and more often. I know that twins are supposed to have some sort of secret communication and soul mate like quality within each other, but my brother and I couldn't be farther from that. No matter how hard either of us seem to try, in our own way at least.
"Mummy, Arabella won't stop touching my hair. Tell her to stop!" "Draco, your hair is so greasy it looks absolutely horrid. Someone has to fix it. I'm just trying to help you." "I don't need your help Ara, now stop before I tell father about this."
Draco knew mentioning father always brought me so much fear. It was unfair how much he had to mention bringing father into our arguments. He always favored Draco over me, even if most days he didn't seem to want to be bothered by either one of us.
"Arabella, leave Draco alone. His hair looks wonderful. Now come on we have to head over to Ollivander's to get your wands then it's off for robe fittings and then you two need to decide what animals you want as your companion. Your father is going to meet us at the tailors, it's best for all of us if we don't keep him waiting."
The three of us start to head over to Ollivander's store, but not before the new quidditch broom catches the eye. I walk over to the display, and I knew it. The new Nimbus 2000. It's always been my dream to play quidditch, at home I've tried to use my aunt's old broom, but I guess my mother and father have eyes everywhere more often these days because I get caught and father makes Dobby give me lashes for disobeying. I look in awe at the broom and seem to get lost in my head as usual because then I feel nails dig into my arm hard.
"Arabella. You must make haste. We cannot be having you be the reason for us being late to meet your father, now come along young lady." Mum drags me alongside her and Draco sneers over at me. We rush inside Ollivander's store and see Mr. Ollivander coming down from one of the many ladders he has in his store.
"Ah, yes. Narcissa. Is it finally time for your twins to get their wands?" "Yes, Ollivander. We have other things to do Ollivander so I must request that they get their wands as soon as possible." "Narcissa- Mrs. Malfoy, you know as well as all other witches and wizards that the wand must choose them. no matter how long it might seem to take. The right wand will come to them in time now."
"Hm. Right." Mother turns to us. "Children. I will go ahead and meet your father over at the robes shop, once you have your wand come over there at once. No distractions." She looks over at me. "Is that understood?" "Yes mother." we both mutter at her. "Alright, now, I'll be off. See you soon." "Good to see you Narciss-" My mother cuts Mr. Ollivander off by slamming the door of the shop shut.
"Well, it might be best if we do not keep your mother and father waiting long now right. let's start with you first Draco."
Ollivander starts to look around in his shop going up and down the various ladders til he stops his hand.
"Possibly." He grabs the box from the shelf and goes over to my brother and I, opens the box and hands the wand to Draco.
"Go on, give it a wave." Draco holds the wand in his hand then lightly waves it. A warm glow comes from the wand that I've never seen before. It's beautiful. I know he's found his wand.
"Ten inches. Hawthorn wood with unicorn hair core. Very powerful wand young Mr. Malfoy. It's rare to see new students get their wand on the first try I must say I'm quite pleased with myself." "Ha! I'm going to be the best wizard in our year. That must be it. Father is going to be so pleased with me." He slams the galleons on the table and runs out of the store without saying goodbye to me.
"Oh. He must be excited then isn't he, Ms. Malfoy?" "Yes sir, he is. And you can call me Arabella, there's no need for the formalities." Ollivander takes a long look at me as if he's in deep thought.
"You, young lady. Are not like the rest of them... are you?" "No sir, I suppose not."
He lightly smiles at me and walks over back into the back of the store. He climbs on the ladder and pauses in front of a box. Just like before, he goes back down and walks over to me, opening the box for me and handing over the wand.
"Same as your brother. Give it a light wave now." I wave the wand and chaos insures. The lights of the store start aggressively flashing and many of the other wand boxes come flying out I have to duck my head, so they don't hit me.
"No! NO! That is not the one." "I'm sorry." I timidly set the wand down onto the counter and Ollivander takes out his wand in the air. "Reparo." All the boxes go back into their cupboards as if nothing has happened. "No matter Arabella, this happens more often than you would think. wands are very gentle. Very much alive. That one just didn't seem to connect with you." He explains to me as he goes back looking for another wand then stops very suddenly, as if a wall came fright in front of him. He looks over to the box on the wall and mutters to himself. "It can't be."
He hesitates, but slowly grabs the box from the self. He looks at the box then over at me and hands it to me slowly. "This one is curious. Very curious."
I barely hold the wand in my hand for a second and the warm glow happens again and the whole shop brightens up before dying down very slowly.
"Sir, I have to ask. Why is this wand curious?" "This wand, while being of different inches and different wood, this wand shares the same phoenix feather with two other wands. Just two. Right before you and your family came in here a young boy acquired the same wand as you. I must warn you Ms. Malfoy. You and this boy are meant to cross paths during your time at Hogwarts and in time. Now, the owner of the third wand, he was a great but terrible wizard. He had committed many atrocities to the wizarding world. Yes... terrible, but great. I see that greatness in you as well, young witch."
"Mr. Ollivander, sir, I must admit my confusion. Who is this young boy that I share the same wand with?" "In time, dear witch, in dear time you will know."
"Thank you, sir." He smiles warmly at me. "It's more than my pleasure to help a new witch of the age Arabella."
I reach to take out the galleons and set them on the counter, but his hand stop mine.
"No need. Consider this one, as the muggles say, 'on the house'." I laugh and put the galleons back in my pocket. "Have a good day sir. Thank you again." He waves as I leave the shop.
