Skye
I didn't know how long I was running, but I finally snuck through an open window of a closed restaurant with the puppy and caught a phone, ducking under the counter seconds later.
I closed my eyes tightly, tears brimming in them as I tried to remember Sebastian's phone number.
But I envisioned my phone, and tried hard to picture what number I kept seeing every time he texted me...
And they flashed across my vision.
I quickly typed them in the phone, breathing shakily as I kept the phone to my ear, and I held the puppy to me who was now content with me holding him.
He'd just seen his owner die... I couldn't imagine what he felt.
But I'd just seen North ruthlessly murder a pedestrian... and that wasn't allowed in angel law.
And... if he was an angel, why didn't he have tattoos? Who the hell was he?
I was shaking, body still rattling with euphoria, and even when the line had only been ringing for two seconds, it felt like an hour.
But—on the fourth ring—Sebastian picked up.
"Hello?" he said.
I almost sobbed at his voice, but kept myself still, entire body shaking as I tried to come up with words to say to him.
"He—llo?" he repeated a little sharply.
"Sebastian...?" I whispered, scared to raise my voice.
He was silent for a moment, and I heard background TV noise, hinting that he was watching a movie in the theater.
"Hey, Skye," he said then, clearly pausing the movie, "what's up? Where are you?"
I breathed shakily, gazing around the dark restaurant nervously and hoping North didn't find me.
"Skye," he repeated with more urgency, "are you alright?"
"Yes..." I lied, "but—but... can you pick me up?"
I heard him sit up. "You're not in the house?"
"No..." I whispered.
He cursed under his breath, and I heard doors open and close, hinting that he was exiting rooms and heading downstairs. "Where are you?"
"The—the restaurant..." I whispered, "on Kin Street... the American one."
"I'll be there," he said.
"Please, hurry," I quietly pleaded.
"I will. Hold still there, okay?"
I lowered the phone, breathing shakily as the puppy under me shifted and whimpered.
I only pulled him up and hugged him, and he let me for some reason.

Two minutes later, the doors to the restaurant opened, and I gazed up when I saw a shadow enter.
"Skye?" Sebastian called.
I quickly caught under a cabinet door and opened it, slipping out a knife as I held the puppy to me.
But I stood then, pointing a knife at him threateningly as he gazed up, eyes rounding.
He threw his hands up innocently, though my entire body was tingling, and I was wondering if I had started dying yet.
"Lower your shirt collar," I demanded to him.
He nodded carefully and lowered it.
The moment I saw the black runes circling his chest, I dropped the knife and ran to him.
He gasped when I pulled against him, though he just smiled and wrapped his arms around me.
"What was that about?" he whispered.
Shivers racked my body. "Your doppelganger doesn't have... runes on his shoulders."
He looked down at me, clearly wanting to ask me what the hell happened, but it seemed as if he could tell I wasn't ready to talk about it, so he just shuffled off his leather jacket.
"Here," he said, guiding my arms into it.
I gazed up at him hazily as he wrapped an arm around me, and I let him guide me to his car.
"I'll patch you up when we get home, and we can arrange healing your wounds, okay?"
I nodded letting him guide me forward.
"Who's this?" Sebastian said, gazing down at the German shepherd puppy.
"I saved him..." I whispered, gazing down before looking back up. "Can we keep him?"
Sebastian rolled his eyes. "Fine."
I smiled. "Really?"
He looked back down. "We can keep him, alright?"
I looked back down at the shepherd, kissing his head as Sebastian guided me into his car, and he shut my door while circling around to get in his side.
