"The world is a dangerous place, Kiki. The question is, if you can handle it.
"So, don't scream no matter how afraid you are.
"Not even when your life flashes before your eyes."
I shot up from my bed, crying out as the world shook from under me.
I'm... afraid.
I had that dream every night. There would be a man standing in the shadows, hovering over me like the monster in my nightmares, and I'd just lay there, helpless.
He would stare at me, tipping his head to the side as if he wanted to tell me something, but he couldn't speak.
He wanted to do something... he wanted to do something bad.
I could tell he was plotting murder.
I just couldn't move.
And it was always the same words:
Don't scream, Kiki.
Don't cry, Kiki.
It will be over soon, Kiki.
Don't be afraid, Kiki.
He'd always call me that name, and I wondered what it meant.
I looked it up, it was a Japanese name that meant something heavenly or something... although only one place online said that.
I don't remember ever knowing that name.
So why did he call me Kiki?
It wasn't only that, though... I could never... see his face.
I didn't know his name; all I knew was that his hair color was black, and that's everything I understood about this man.
His eyes were black, too... like a demon.
I wasn't sure if I was cursed by a witch or something.
I had that dream every night with no failure, and he'd just stand there... holding something that I could never make out.
And then he would curse under his breath, and I would wake up.
It was like he couldn't do what he was planning to do.
But what was he planning?
What did he want from me? Why did I keep dreaming of him?
I didn't even know his name... so what was his name?
I just shook my head, rolling over on the mattress and shutting my lashes.
I wish I could understand you better.
