The car ride home was completely silent; at one point in time, Sebastian stopped to get some food at some deli shop—the puppy was asleep on my lap—and he'd been gone for about two minutes while I stared out the window, lost in thought.

Sebastian's doppelganger... North.

I didn't know how he related to Sebastian... he could've been the cliché evil twin for all I know, but... he could've been a shapeshifter, a reflection of him somehow; that's how North viewed himself... a reflection of Sebastian's bad side?

Was it even possible for fallen angels to split into different forms?

I closed my eyes tightly, setting my head on the side of the wall as I waited for Sebastian to come back.

God I was so tired... but I wasn't sure if I could sleep again.

Sebastian... good or bad? North... was he Sebastian or was he... someone else?

I sighed through my nose, the cold hands tightening around my throat, and I shrank into myself, hoping they'd let me breathe.

I wasn't sad that I watched that girl get killed... maybe I was in denial still.

I wonder when I'd stop being in denial.

But the doors to the deli opened, and Sebastian came out, smiling at me when he saw me through the windshield.

The moment I saw one of his runes poking through his jacket and swirling up his neck, I settled back into myself.

He opened his car door, handing me To-Go bags, and I happily took them, setting them on my lap as Sebastian buckled his seatbelt and started the car.

Five minutes passed as we drove in silence, and I could tell it was crawling through him like bugs.

"So..." Sebastian said finally, making me glance up, "are you going to tell me what happened?"

I stared back out the windshield, eyes darkening. "Nothing," I lied, "I just was walking and got cold... and this dog was walking alone in the streets, and it was cold... you know."

I didn't know why I lied... Was I saving myself or my pride? Or was I afraid of Sebastian's reaction when I told him I found out his doppelganger's name?

I felt him eyeing me suspiciously, though he seemed to give in and stared back out the windshield.
