"Accendo," I whispered, watching as the blade slide out from the hilt and light on fire, covering the entire alleyway in a soft glow.
The light reflected off of North's figure, but he didn't seem fazed; he was still smiling.
"Stupid—stupid girl," North said, making a tsk noise. "You don't know what you've gotten yourself into, do you?"
I glared. "What are you talking about?"
He smiled. "Sebastian... my brother. He's mine, you know. It was cruel that you turned him against me."
I narrowed my eyes.
So that was why... I took Sebastian from him; that's why North wanted to kill me.
"So, I'm guessing Sebastian gave you the whole backstory?" North suggested, eyes glowing dangerously as the lamp above him flickered with the wind.
"That you're a demon?" I said, holding the knife out in front of me. "Yes."
He sighed and tipped his head back. "You're awfully self-confident. Only a couple months ago you were afraid of me. Now you want to kill me? How you've changed, Skye. How you've changed."
"What do you want?" I demanded.
He glanced over at me, eyes glowing red in anger. "Watch that tone."
"You don't control me," I hissed.
"But I'm guessing Sebastian does?" he said.
I shrank back, brows drawing together. "What?"
"He's controlling you?" North inquired. "I mean... that's what relationships are, aren't they? Control?"
I glared. "You know nothing about love! You know nothing about feeling."
"I pretend to know," he said, waving his hands sarcastically, "blah—blah. All my victims said the same thing, hoping to piss me off in order for me to not kill them. So I'd mess up?" His eyes flickered to mine. "I'm a psychopath, Skye, not a sociopath. I don't feel anger."
I gave him a look. "You got the psychology on that wrong." I pointed the knife at him threateningly. "Psychopaths feel anger, but it's over exaggerated, whereas sociopaths feel anger like everyone else. Although... psychopaths and sociopaths lack empathy and emotional connection."
"Oooh," North said, laughing, "someone's smart, aren't they?"
"You've killed countless humans!" I yelled to him, though he just smirked. "How are you not in hell yet, North?!"
He tipped his head to the side. "In order to detain me," he explained darkly, "the angels have to catch me, Skye."
