epilogue

George was terrified his fiancée was having regrets about agreeing to spend the rest of her life with him. Despite all that they had been through and the love they clearly felt for one another, he still had moments when he experienced bouts of anxiety that was rooted in his fears that she would leave. What if she came to the realisation that their relationship was too shrouded in the darkness of the past? That it wasn't worth all the things they had lost along the way? What if she no longer saw a future with him?

One day, when his worries seemed to have spiralled out of control, he made the decision to confront his bride-to-be.

"If you are having second thoughts, love."

"George, what are you even—"

"It's just, you've been so far from me these last few weeks and I can't help but feel as if you've grown tired of me already, and if you don't want to marry me anymore, please say so now or I think I might actually implode."

Lost in his own anxious thoughts and trying to voice them, George barely noticed the tears glistening in Mia's eyes as she struggled to find the courage to speak. She was smiling too, which made George even more confused as it didn't quite match his theory that she was wanting to run for the hills.

But as he turned to her, his heart aching with longing and uncertainty, Mia finally found her voice.

"George," she began, her voice trembling with emotion as she met his gaze. "There's something I need to tell you."

George's heart skipped a beat at the seriousness in Mia's tone, his fears intensifying as he braced himself for her words.

"I've been distant lately," Mia confessed, her voice barely more than a whisper as she struggled to find the right words. "And I know it's been hard for you, for both of us. But there's a reason for it, George. A reason I've been keeping from you."

George's brow furrowed in confusion, his mind racing with questions as he searched Mia's face for answers.

"I'm pregnant, George," Mia finally admitted, her voice choked with emotion as she spoke the words aloud for the first time. "I found out a few weeks ago, and I've been trying to find a way to tell you ever since."

A wave of disbelief washed over George as he processed Mia's words, his mind reeling with shock and joy. Despite his fears and insecurities, there was one thing he knew for certain: he loved Mia more than anything in this world, and the thought of starting a family with her filled him with a sense of overwhelming gratitude and joy.

"Oh, Mia," George whispered, his voice filled with love and awe as he pulled her into his arms, holding her close as if to shield her from the doubts and fears that threatened to tear them apart. "I love you, Mia. More than anything in this world. And no matter what challenges lie ahead, we'll face them together, as a family."

And as they held each other close, their hearts overflowing with love and gratitude, Mia knew that no matter what the future held, they would face it together, stronger and more united than ever before.
