Days later...

Ash.

"What do you think I'm some- some pushover or something?" She practically shrieks.

Harry's quick to shake his head, hands reaching towards her. "Ashton, listen to me please-"

"No!" She booms. Her small voice has finally given her the extreme she needed.

"I'm not- I thought you'd like it-"

"Yeah, you thought! People think they can just do whatever they want to me? Well, guess what? I quit!"

"Ashton, don't do that-"

"I can do whatever I want. You don't have to make my decisions any longer," her finger shoves at his chest before poking her own.

"You deserve better!" He yells, stepping close and bending down so they're face-to-face. "You know that as well as I do! You're taking the job or you're out of one, your father made the decision-"

"Only because you brought it up!" She shouts.

He leans forwards, eyes narrow. "Don't talk over me," he growls. His eyes darken and he stands back up to his full height.

"I don't have to listen to you," she mutters helplessly. Her cheeks are flushed and she's on the verge of tears.

"Yes you do. If you take this job I am still your boss," he points out. "If I knew your father was a co-owner of this business in the first place, I would've demanded a job for you earlier. You're not fit to settle."

She shakes her head. "And I thought you were different. You're just as low as any other man," she spits. Her chest feels like it's gonna fall out of her butt and her mind tells her she's going to vomit.

Harry's features soften, "You deserve better, Ashton. You're always getting the shorter end of the stick."

She glances up at him, "I am, and I'm tired of it. Bye, Harry."

"Please, don't. You need this job-"

"I don't need anything," she growls. She grabs her bag off of her old desk and heads towards the door. "It's a shame, you know. I thought we had something great."

--

"Dad," she begged.

"Ashton, I'm telling you one last time. Harry is a great business man, he knows what he's talking about."

"You're both full of shit."

"Ashton-"

"No. You don't get to ignore me my entire life and then pretend you care just to get me into a job. You know as well as I do that you are only hiring me because you need me."

"You're easily replaceable. You think I don't care? I've went out of my way plenty of times for you-"

"Oh, please," she mutters, rolling her eyes. She hears him sigh on the other end of the phone.

"You know your mother would want this. It pays so well, Ashton."

"Stop, calling me that. You know I hate it when people call me that," she snaps. Her mood had gotten even worse just at the sound of his voice, but bringing up her mother, it's as if he wanted her to kill him.

"Please consider it. You'll be making a lot of money. You can finally afford a nice house and settle down."

"I am settled down. I don't want anything other than what I have," she answers somewhat truthfully.

Harry pops up in her mind again. They're movie binging on eighties movies was nice. He was nice. But, then again, he really wasn't. Damn, idiot, called her father. Her father of all people. She knew eventually he'd find out but not many people knew. Marisa didn't even know.

"Ash, baby," he sighs. "This is life changing. It's so important."

"It's not fair. I should have to start low and work my way up just like everyone else."

"You're better than everyone else. There's a test that most cubicles take to be promoted. Very few are smart enough but I know you could pass it easy. Study and take it. If you pass, take the job. If not, I'll allow you to leave the chance. But if you fail and you want this job, it's all yours."

She sighs, closing her eyes, "Alright, I'll take it."

Okay, so is this chapter sucky? Like do you get what's going on?

RECAP (only if you don't understand this chapter bc I wrote it weird af):
Her father is co-owner of the company that Harry's over. (He's something like a CEO like the main man 😍 ) When Harry figures it out he calls her father and demands she has a better job than an assistant. (I didn't wanna write that part bc borinnggggg) Anyways she takes it offensively because she hates her father but in the end agrees to take the test.

Btw Marisa works in a cubical
