Cleo's POV
"Yeah just check on her please? I feel bad that I can't stay home today-"
"You can't be with her all the time baby. I'm already here." I said, peeking under their doormat for the spare key to Fallons house.
I had a dentist appointment and wasn't scheduled to work today but Fallon was, so she asked me to check on Fiona.
"She's been being weird lately." Fallon mumbled, I wasn't sure if that was meant for me or not.
"Alright, I'm inside amore. I'll call you when I'm leaving okay? Maybe I'll take her out and get food depending on her mood." I said, looking around at the empty living room.
"Okay. Thank you so much." She said before hanging up.
"Bitch.. just let me borrow it please." Fiona said in an oddly high pitched tone. Her voice came from the other room. I smiled to myself and rolled my eyes.
Approaching her door, I opened it slowly and stumbled back slightly when my eyes were laid on her.
Fiona had a hard cover notebook on her lap, and was snorting something off of it.
White powder.
I stood there in shock as her friend continued speaking on the phone. Finally Fiona noticed me and quickly tried to hide what I'd already saw.
"Shit Cleo!" She said defensively, grabbing her phone and hanging up on her friend.
"What're you even doing here?!" She exclaimed looking at me offended. Carefully scooping the coke into her hand and getting it back into the plastic baggy that sat beside her.
I wanted to get upset at Fiona, scold her even. But I figured she'd get enough of that from Fallon. What she needed right now was someone who'd sit down and hear her out.
Fallons POV
I scrolled endlessly through Jason's messages, and searched his phone.
I felt sick, mindlessly sick.
This man abused the fuck out of Madeline. His messages with her consisted of verbal abuse and forcing her to send pictures of herself when they weren't together.
I nearly vomited at the thought of Cleo reading these messages. That's her literally sister, and this man ruined her.
"Fallon?" A voice called from the other side of the door before Louisa walked in. I quickly shoved the phone under my desk and pretended to look at a random file on my desk.
"Hey Lou, what's up?" I said clearing my throat. I looked up at her and her face was screwed up as if she'd seen something bad.
"Look, I wanted you to hear this from me." She sighed and sat down in a chair directly opposite me. Louisa looked up with a slight frown and tilted her head at me.
"Do you remember that guy.. Kenin from the meeting a couple weeks ago?"
Yes I remember the flamboyant weirdo.
I nodded. "What about him?"
"I overheard him talking to Sergio about why you should be taken off the double murder case. He was saying things like you haven't been competent enough to solve it. Sergio said he'd take it into consideration."
Internally I groaned. Sitting back in my chair and leaning my head back.
"Kenin usually gets his way with things around here — I know you haven't had any experience with him yet but he's not great news Fallon." Louisa warned.
