May 4th 2012 The Bishop's penthouse got damaged during the battle of New York and Kate's father, Derek, was killed when the house came under attack by the Chitauri.
While Clint Barton aka Hawkeye fought the Chitauri, Eleanor and Kate managed to escape from the rubble of their collapsing house but Derek did not make it. After seeing how brave Clint was during the Battle, Kate began to idolise him.

May 9th 2012 At the graveyard, after Derek's funeral, Kate and Eleanor sat side by side heads resting against one another as they looked at a photo of Derek put in front of the gravestone.
"What if they come back?" Kate asked her mom, referring to the Chitauri.
"They won't come back."
"How do you know?"
"Because the heroes showed them what would happen. And even though this is scary, I'm still the luckiest woman in the world because I have the greatest little girl in the world. Who is not that little."
"I need to protect us."
"Kate, that's my job."
"Okay?"
"Whatever you need, I'm here for you."
"I need a bow and arrow."
Just then Alex and his mom came to see Eleanor and Kate. Alex went to talk to Kate and Kristy to Eleanor.
"I'm sorry about your dad."
"Thanks, Alex." Kate said as she wiped a few tears from her face and went to give Alex a hug.
Alex returned the hug, Alex resting his head on Kate's shoulder. "I'm here for you if you need it."
"Thank you so much. I don't know what I'd do without you."
A few days later after much persuasion Eleanor got Kate her first bow and arrow. She signed Kate up for archery classes and Kate was quickly getting the hang of her new bow.

December 11th 2012 Kate had been taken lessons for about 7 months now.
"You're really good."
"Thanks." Kate says as she shoots and hits the bullseye of the target for the 3rd time.
